“Gorgeous Grounds, Friendly Dogs”
Reviewed 29 October 2012

Bonnie and I loved the gardens and the dogs. The breakfasts were simple but good. The ladies that prepared breakfast were very sweet, but did not speak any English if that is a problem you might use an English/Spanish dictionary. The flowers, fruit trees, rock garden are all beautiful. The pool was covered and you must let the owners know you want to use it or the hot tube. The owners are not readily accessible and I think email is the best way to reach them. Cabin 2 was spacious, clean, tasteful and secluded. The water was hot, the toilet worked well, the room was clean. Gerrit is a friendly and very business like man from Holland.

The beds are extremely hard so if this is an issue for you that is something to think about. Most beds in Ecuador are extremely hard.

The place is in Tumbaco about 40 minutes outside of Quito, but the taxi ride is not bad or too expensive.

Room Tip: Cabin 2 has a queen sized bed and a private bathroom.

My husband and I stayed in Casita 2 for a couple of nights at the beginning of our vacation in Ecuador and the night before we left. Gerrit always touched base with us every evening and sat with us while we ate breakfast to help us with our plans for the day. He has a favorite taxi driver, who along with his wife, took care of our transportation to and from the airport and around Quito. Breakfast was a generous fruit plate, eggs, juice, coffee, and bread. As we had a very early departure from Quito airport we were provided with a breakfast tray the night before so that we would have coffee, fruit, juice, and snacks when we got up in the morning. The grounds are very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed their cat, Rosa Corazon, and the two dogs, puppy Lulu and her mother.

The Tumbaco B&B was really wonderful. The cottages make you feel like you're a bit isolated and independent, yet the owners and staff are there to help you with advice and their lovely morning breakfasts.

We stayed at the B&B for 6 days, taking a taxi into Quito almost every other day. The owners know a great couple who are taxi drivers and can take you anywhere and bring you back when you want (which is important -- as the B&B is a bit difficult to find). We bought groceries and made dinner in the cottage most evenings, enjoying the meal outside on our cottage's porch. The room was comfortable and the free WIFI was appreciated. The owners are lovely people and the grounds/gardens are tended with care. We sat many an early evening just marveling at a nearby hummingbird or other gorgeous birds. The two dogs on the property brought comic relief with the little one's antics and made us not miss our own dog at home too much. A delightful stay.

Room Tip: We had cottage 3, with a matrimonial bed and kitchenette. Be careful with the shower...the water is...

We stayed at this lovely B & B at the beginning of April for two nights, and had a wonderful time. The owners were lovely, gracious, interesting hosts, and were very responsive to helping us with booking and making plans in the area. We spent a day at Otavalo with a guide they recommended, and tried some restaurants on their recommendations as well. Our favorite was a lovely spot down by a river with outdoor tables in a great setting. Our kids loved the playground, the chance to run around, and, of course, the pool. It is a little bit off the beaten track, so be prepared to pay for taxis to get around.

My friend and I loved our little casita after a long day visiting Quito and the mountains. Enjoyed visiting with the owners and especially Amanda their daughter who joined us for Yoga on the lawn. We felt completely at home and appreciated the breakfast each morning before we took off on our explorations. It was also nice to use Gerrit the owner's driver who was knowledgeable about traveling around the surrounding areas. We particularly enjoyed the hot water springs nearby.

I stayed here with my family in one of the cabins after a two week trip in Ecuador. It was a beautiful oasis of calm following our hectic two weeks. The grounds are lovely and the hosts very kind. Our kids loved the puppy and the pool and the hot tub. It was very difficult to get them to want to leave to go do anything else. There are very nice touches such as the wine and candles in the rooms, the nice generous selection at breakfast, and the hiring of a taxi to pick up a pizza for us when we came in late our first night. I wished I was there with my husband alone as I could envison enjoying the beauty of it all more than the cannonballs in the pool. But we had a great time and I would recommend it to anyone.

We spent the first 3 nights of our Ecuador adventure here, and cannot say enough good things about the property, the hosts, or overall experience. Every morning, without being asked, Gerrit the owner sat down with us and helped us plan our day, made suggestions based on a wealth of knowledge, and helped us to feel “at home.” Breakfast was tasty, the coffee was wonderful, and the entire experience was simply terrific.
