“We had an excellent stay.”
Reviewed 17 June 2013 via mobile

We spend two nights at the B&B in Tumbaco.
Everything as excellent, the room are spacious and clean what counts the same for the bathrooms.
The host are so nice, the breakfast is served in their kitchen so you right away feel like being a part of the family.
My daughter could get along great with their daughter Amanda as well!
I can recommend this bed and breakfast highly to everybody.

This B and B was not what we expected. Overall we found it expensive for what it was. I'll lay out the pros and cons and let you decide for yourself.

Pros
-close to the airport--40 minutes instead of an hour and a half
-beautiful property
-comfortable bed

Cons
-expensive, more so than a nicer place we stayed in Cuenca
-isolated. We knew it was not in town, but didn't realize how isolated it was (we paid $3 each way to get to dinner by taxi)
-we had to catch a 9:15 am plane. This meant leaving at 7:30 so we missed breakfast. We were given an uninspiring tray of packaged foods.
-it is a family run place, which can be a good thing, but we felt we had to go with his schedule even though we were paying a lot of money.

Overall the experience was just not what we hoped.

Tumbaco, Propietario at B&B Tumbaco, responded to this review, 19 June 2013
Dear guest,
Thank you for your stay at our Bed and Breakfast and your critical review. We take an effort in always improving our service, so we are grateful for your comments. I am sorry to hear that your stay was not what you expected, mainly due to your very short stay with us. Concerning your cons:
- Our accommodation is indeed upscale and another important factor in price is of course location. Comparing to other places near the New Airport of Quito like Hostería San José and Rincon de Puembo, we are not at all expensive.
- As explained on the website and elsewhere we are not in the city center or in the middle of Tumbaco. We are at about 7 minutes from the Tumbaco village center, where there are many restaurants and Shopping Malls; one can walk or take a taxi.
- As you can see in the other reviews our breakfasts are highly praised. We are sorry you had no change to try it, due to your one night stay and early departure. Although our personnel arrives at 7h30 am, we would have been happy to prepare your breakfast at 7h00 ourselves, but for your convenience we offered you a tray, with juice, fresh fruits, yoghurt, coffee and milk, and crackers.
- Our guests do absolutely not have to go with our schedule. We do pickups and drop-offs at the airport every hour of the day, every day per week. We even changed your reserved transfer when your plane was delayed. Guests have the key from the front door, so can come in and out anytime and there are guards 24/7 to our gated community.

We had the pleasure of staying in this B&B for four nights over a two week period while we traveled through Ecudaor. We kept coming back because of the hospitality and the beauty of the entire complex. The rooms were well equipped, beds very comfortable. Sylvia made us great breakfasts each morning. Gerrit and his family and staff were very helpful. Even the two dogs and the cat were friendly. We recommend this place highly.

Room Tip: All rooms were more than adequate.

Comfortable, pleasant space with enough room to relax.
Great breakfast, served in the main house.

Grounds are attractive with walking paths, many birds , flowers and fruit trees. A jacuzzi is available if you have time , lots of nice spots to sit and relax.

After having our accommodations changed from Quito to a location closer to the new airport, we were thrilled to find ourselves at B&B Tumbaco. Our lodging was in a wonderful private cottage amongst a beautiful large garden setting. We were made to feel very much at home starting with the delicious breakfasts each morning with Gerrit and his family. Gerrit helped us with our itinerary, offering up excellent suggestions and recommendations. When we found ourselves needing a late meal after a busy day of sightseeing, Gerrit and his wonderful wife Patricia arranged for a taxi to drive us to, and return us from one of their highly recommended restaurants nearby. With the various excursions that made up our itinerary, it was very helpful and time saving to be close to the new airport and still have such a wonderful lodging experience! The beautiful accommodations, the touches of home and the incredible hosts, make B&B Tumbaco a place we greatly look forward to coming back to!!!

We stayed here for two nights, 4 days apart as we arrived at the new Quito airport late and had early morning flights out the next day on two occasions. For those in a similar situation, this is a far better way to go than going into Quito. The B&B is beautiful, it really deserved more time than we gave it as one could really relax and enjoy the beautiful grounds and busy oneself with hiking, swimming, for a few days. However for those in transit this is a far more economical (both in terms of $s and time) way to negotiate an overnight in the Quito airport area. The beds were comfortable, the breakfast delicious and the hosts were warm and helpful and it was only about 20 minutes from the airport to the B&B. People are budgeting 90 minutes or more to get from Quito to the new airport because traffic can be terrible and the new roads are not completed. Save yourself the aggravation and stay in this lovely site far closer to the airport.

We stayed at B&B Tumbaco on our first and last nights in Ecuador due to its relative proximity to the new airport and the fact that we were not going into Quito. We could not have asked for more! Gerrit was the perfect host -- he provided helpful tips on our itinerary, made excellent recommendations for accommodations in other towns, arranged for taxis and gave great driving directions. His experience and knowledge were instrumental in our having a great vacation. The lodgings and grounds were lovely and breakfasts in the main house were great. A very quiet and restful place for us to de-stress before and after the trip. We would love to go back and spend more time there!
