“Good Hotel in the old town”
Reviewed 20 April 2011

I checked in late to the Plaza Sucre for an overnight before continuing on to Cuenca. The night staff was very helpful (Jorge). The $60 room that I got was small and tired, but clean and comfortable. The hotel itself has some nice architecture, art and the central lobby is very pleasing with natural light filtering into the main area. If you want to be closer to restaurants and clubs, this may not be the best location. Although it is in the center of the old town, the action appears to be in the north of the city. If you are planning a one night stop-over before flying to another destination you may want to consider a hotel closer to the airport. Plaza Sucre was 20+ minutes away by taxi at a cost of $9. The hotel offers a nice egg breakfast with various accompaniments on the top floor with a great view of the city. People here don't seem to be overly friendly, but that could just be because it is a larger city. Overall, I would recommend this location if you are going to be spending a few days and want to be close to the historical attractions. Of course, there are plenty of taxis to get you to where you want to go!

A charming boutique hotel we chose for our first night in Quito, the beautiful aesthetics are let down by the staff. While they are not unfriendly, the are not particularly helpful. The rooms on the first two floors all surround a quiet, bright courtyard, and the top-floor cafeteria (serving omlettes for breakfast) has a fantastic view of the surrounding hills. The rooms themselves, and particularly the bathrooms, could do with some refurbishing and cleaning.

Good for a night, but not a great value for a long-term stay.

We spent 6 nights here over our daughter's spring break week. Our initial intention was to visit our sponsored Compassion child and tour the children's Compassion project in Quito which we were able to do on one of our days. The rest of our week was left open and although we contemplated taking a flight either to the Galapagos or to the Amazon Jungle, we eventually decided to spend our time in the Quito area and surrounding Andes. This hotel, located in Quito Old Towne was the perfect location. We took 2 days to do and see all that Quito has to offer. We thoroughly explored the museums and cathedrals of old town; we took the cable car up to a nearby volcano where the views were spectacular. We then took an additional 3 days to do day trips from Quito. We hired a van driver for the day and for $120 each day, he took the 3 of us wherever we wanted to go. Each day ended up being about 4 hours of driving and 8-10 hours total so we felt it was well worth the money to not have to hassle with public transportation given our limited time to figure everything out.
We headed west the first day to Mindo where we enjoyed hiking to a waterfall, doing the canopy ziplines (had to negotiate the price on this one); visiting an aviary and butterfly farm. It was a wonderful day but we were glad to return back to our clean, safe hotel in Quito. The following days we headed north to the Otovolo Market (go on a Saturday), we also visited the equator ( Mitad del Mundo); another day we headed south to climb the active volcano Cotapaxi. Again, after long days, it was always nice to return to our little home away from home. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance as well as shopping and sight seeing in the surrounding blocks.
The hotel was always clean and most often quiet. There is a breakfast included each morning and wi-fi is also available, however it was not working for the second half of our stay. Internet cafes are nearby for those who needed internet access.
We would definitely stay here again, although most likely only for a night or so enroute to the coast or another section of the country. There is so much to do, one visit is not enough.

Room Tip: Ask for a room just above the lobby so that you c

Excellent location, good service, friendly helpful staff, and full breakfast, including made-to=order eggs. All at a low price for a world class city.
Drawbacks: limited wifi connectivity. There are 2 desktop computers, but they are mainly decoys--access is limited and keys are so worn down that typing includes much guesswork.
Stay here in the Centro Historico and takes cabs (they are frequent, cheap, and trustworthy) to the Mariscal District where the restaurant selection is better. But don't stay in Mariscal. It's a backpacker ghetto with the usual noise, crime, and lack of originality.

If you want to avoid the touristy Mariscal neighborhood, this is a great place that's near the Plaza Grande. Our room was clean and looked recently renovated. The bathroom was especially sleek. The hotel has two computers available to guests at all hours in the common area, as well as a supply of drinking water for filling of bottles, etc. The breakfast is tasty and plentiful, with eggs prepared to order. The only downside was the noise, as our room was directly under the kitchen and we could hear the blender on and off starting at 6:30 am. Bring earplugs to ensure a peaceful night's sleep.

We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Boutique Plaza Sucre. The hotel is located in a fantastic location in Old Town Quito. It's close to all of the tourist sights. The hotel staff was helpful, but not too friendly. The room was clean, updated, and safe. The room had 2 windows opening to the hallway. It would have been better to have an outside window. The breakfast room was located on the top floor and had nice views of the old town. The breakfast was good...bread, fruit, cereal, eggs, yogurt, etc. If we visit Quito again, we would definitely stay here. Old Town Quito is much nicer than the new town.

we stayed at the end of jan 2011. The hotel is located in the old town very near almost everything worth seeing in Quito. The hotel seems very new, very clean and polished. It is very quiet with lots of open space. The rooms are excellent, very roomy and the bathroom is spotless with great water temp/pressure.Good wi fi is provided free as is unlimited coffee and tea which is a nice touch.
The breakfast is pretty poor to be honest which is a shame and is the only negative.(They cook eggs to order but not much else, which is ok for 1-2 days but after 4 days a bit repetitive) that apart a great stay and good value for money.
