I can't possibly say enough about this place. Forget the breathtaking views and relaxed atmosphere, the service is top notch. The manager Remi goes above and beyond from sunup to lights out. He is also a walking encyclopedia of information when it comes to all outdoor activities. So I'd suggest buying him a beer and picking his brain as much as possible.

Have been twice since I arrived in August and are planning to go back again in two weeks. The current staff are brilliant and willing to share their knowledge of the local mountains and offer guided hikes. The views are amazing. Cotopaxi can be seen through nearly every window, especially when it is clear when you can see to the top and the surrounding smaller mountains. Evenings can be sent in front of the fireplace or in the Jacuzzi watching the sunset. A hidden paradise, off the beaten track. Well worth the visit.

From the moment we were greeted by manager Remi, three month old calf Canela, and the four secret garden dogs, we felt right at home. After some spectacular hiking, nothing beats relaxing by the warm fire in the main lodge, or soaking in the jacuzzi with mountain views and a glass of red wine! The food is fabulous with huge portions which cater to any dietary needs including vegetarian. We loved our hike to the Cotopaxi glacier with guide Carlos, as well as simply hanging out at the lodge, reading books, cuddling up with daschund Mash and feeding Canela. Thanks to both Remi and David for their hospitality, we hope to return! Hot showers, excellent cozy rooms with stove, but remember no Internet - it was great to disconnect and spend time talki to fellow travellers instead!

This truly feels likes secret garden in the middle of a valley surrounded by cow fields, volcanoes and natural beauty. The view of Cotopaxi is front and center...from the main house dining table, the jacuzzi, and even the optional compost bathroom! Its such a well kept property and very clean. I love the fireplaces in every room too. Food is great and hot coffee / tea are available all day.
It's a charming and relaxing place to spend a quiet day or take advantage of the hikes, bike rides, horse rides, etc. Oh and the animals on site are a fun addition....dogs, llamas, pigs, horse and even a rescued baby calf when I was there!!

The Secret Garden in Cotopaxi came well recommended by friends. The rural setting with its green , rolling hills was lovely and stress free .Rooms had views of snow-capped Cotopaxi Volcano from every window. The sunsets were comprised of swirling rainbow hued mists circling the mountains. All meals were included in the price of $35. per person .Entrees , such as Mango and Goat Cheese Pizzas, were prepared and served by volunteers . The Secret Garden caters to hikers and climbers with big appetites... the portions were huge and the food never ending.
There were five women on my trip and we shared the family room. There were several beds, a wood stove and a bathroom downstairs and two beds upstairs. A fire was lit for us in the wood stove after dinner and we were kept cozy during the night. We opted for a 3 hour horseback ride up into the mountains on Sunday. I am nervous when riding horses that I am not acquainted with but - not a problem. The horses were very well behaved and the guide was extremely helpful. Each of us were issued wooly chaps to keep our legs warm ...nice for photo opportunities . I highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a jaunt into the Ecuadorian countryside.

Room Tip: Try the family room for a group of friends or a family .The jacuzzi needs to be turned on an hour be...

Loved my 3 days here. I would have stayed longer if they had internet so I could work, but thank God they didn't have internet if you know what I mean. Ultra relaxing trip, days were up early about 6 or 7, go do some sort of activity, back by 4, relaxed around fire with the other guests, snacks around 5, dinner at 7:30, try to stay awake until 9. Always interesting guests, the setting is stunning. One thing though, the Ruminahui trek they tell you about, is not a trek. It's a 22km hike and a pretty strenuous climb up a 15,400ft volcano that is steep, it involves climbing and plenty of it, so if you hate heights, like I do, then avoid it.. I did it, but had no idea ahead of time what was involved. A small blip though, would go back tomorrow if time allowed.

I stayed at the Secret Garden in Cotopaxi for 4nights in the dorm. On my arrival I was met by 15people who were already there and were all laying on the sofas by the fire place. It was clear the location was superb. The volunteers Remi & Victor did a great job of making us feel like at home. No Wifi meant you either talked to the other people or you reclused into your books.
I loved the animals they had as part of the family: Milo, Mash, Daisy(dogs) and Canela the cow! It was easy just to sit there and watchtower he stunning views of Cotopaxi or relax on the sofa. But there are a lot of extreme quality hikes, horse riding and moutain biking. All in all, I would recommend this to anyone with an adventurous spirit who also likes the beauty of nature.
