The complimentary cocktail delivered to my room was only a finishing taste of a wonderful 9 hours I had at this hotel.
Late arrival and staff on their toes to greet and please and checkin was easy. Room was very clean and adequate with internet connection in place in a snap.

Breakfast buffet was a delight and a pleasure to see the staff attentiveness to the food items as well as the patrons. If hotel staff are happy in their jobs, it naturally spills over to the guests. Lucky for us~!

Room Tip: Worth the fairly quick trip from the new airport to the hotel.

Hotel Finlandia is located in excellent part of Quito, walking distance to several shopping centers, close to embassy of many countries (this affecting overall security feeling), and 100 m from great park.
Hotel has two parts - old, and new. Works are still being done in between of two parts, and this should be known by guests - since it affects functionality of hotel.
If possible - try to get a room in new part.

I had room in both old and new part, and had bad luck to have a leaking water pipe during night, and this should not happen to any guest ;)

Rooms are OK, bathroom is a bit small, in old part, and decent in new part of hotel.
Rooms do not have safe - and there is no separated safes in reception, and this can be problem.
Service is excellent, trying to help in any way possible, great English spoken on reception, but still - as long as works are in progress, be aware that it is not perfect.

Breakfast buffet is full of fresh fruit and do not miss any of fruit given, even if you do not know what it is!

Room Tip: Rooms in new part of hotel should be first option! Some of them have view on street, some have view on internal yard, so choose one that you like :)

Though our visit last week was for only a matter of hours as we arrived very late and left the next day for Cuenca, the staff was extremely helpful. Our room was delightful and the complimentary breakfast buffet was lovely. We hope to return for a longer stay and have already highly recommended Hotel Finlandia to a few people we met on our trip.

I spent a week here and was pleasantly surprised by the proximity to all of the customers I needed to see (oil companies.) All of their offices were less than 10-15 min walks from here and the hotel is right next to a huge park that you can stroll through during the day in perfect safety.

The breakfast was included and it's very basic, but covers the bases. I even asked if they could make me some egg whites one morning and they were happy to do that even though it's not part of the menu.

The front desk people are all very friendly and accommodating.

Room Tip: My room (606) has a window that looks across into an office building and I wasn't comfortable leaving the shade open at all so it was kind of dismal in that respect. Also room 606 is tiny. The TV has hundreds of channels, but I was unable to get the guide or menu to work so I had to flip through about 150 channels with 3 second delays between each channel to finally get to the news stations. I was attending a 2.5 day conference in Quito and the hotel they had partnered with seemed to be priced a little high for the region. I poked around and selected the Hotel Finlandia from some reviews I had read and that I am of Finish decent. I had spent four days in Bogota with some friends prior to arriving in Quito. I had made arrangements for the Hotel to have someone pick me up at the airport. What was to have been a 1 hour and 40 minute flight from Bogota to Quito turned into a 6 hour nightmare. After multiple landing attempts and last minute aborts, we then flew to Mantra Ecuador and disembarked the plane even though they had no immigration or customs at that airport. We were sequestered in the terminal, they refueled the plane and we tried again with two more landing attempts and last minute aborts. Then circled the airport and finally landed around 1:00 am. The culprit was Fog. After processing through customs and Immigration much to my surprise there was an older gentlemen with big smile and a sign with my name on it. I was happy the Hotel did there job on this one. We then drug my luggage out of the airport and up this hill with what I would not really call sidewalk to an awaiting sedan parked off the premises. I was huffing and puffing from the 9350 ft altitude by the time we reached the car. We then drove to the hotel and I got checked in. That all went pretty smoothly and I got settled into a small room with no HVAC or even a box of facial tissue. Finally got to sleep at 3:00 am. The next day I got up and had a nice breakfast in the hotel restaurant, typical South American Hotel Breakfast. And checked the place out a little. It turns out I was staying in an old section of the hotel. They have built a new hotel right next door and eight stories high. Different elevator and only accessible with card key access. Since I got such a good deal on my room I did not say anything, and except for the room being somewhat tired. Everything was really clean and attended to. After my conference was over, Sunday morning I had booked driver and a car to go to the Equator. I went downstairs to get a packet I had left in the safe at the front desk (correct, no in room safes). They tried and tried to get the safe open and were not able to for some reason, came to find out the morning desk clerk forgot the combination. I was furious. Finally 40 minutes later they got the safe open and I was able to retrieve my packet. I then returned to my room and saw that the maid was cleaning the room next to me so I put the "Please Make Up the Room ASAP" sign on the door knob and went on my tour. While returning from my tour I started feeling ill from Altitude Sickness and also had Diarrhea after I got back to the Hotel. Upon my return my room had not been made up and I told the desk clerk to please have my room made up and have them notify me when it was complete and that I would like to have access to the lounge area in the new section of the hotel. She said no problem and told me that my room would be ready in 30 minutes. After 35 minutes I then went to my room felling terrible only to find out that they had not even stated making it up. I went downstairs with an empty toilet paper roll and asked for some toilet paper and what was the delay with the room cleaning? They searched around and finally found a roll of toilet paper for me and upon returning to my room my key would then not work. Back down to the desk again for my key to be reset and some strong words for the desk clerk. I asked to speak to the boss (El Jefe) but they never produced anyone. Finally got my room cleaned and was pretty much stuck in my room for the next 2.5 days due to my illness. I did speak to another desk clerk the next day and told him what had happened and he offered to put me up on the new side of the hotel as a good will gesture. I Thanked him and decided I did not want to pack up all my stuff for the an additional two days of my stay. At the end of the day I got a great rate in Quito for what I would call a two star facility. Best of all he place was really clean. I could have stayed at the Conference Host Hotel for twice the rate I paid or at the Sheraton for 4 times what I paid.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the New Section.
