Though Quito, Ecuador, has many modern attractions, visiting La Ronda in the historic Old Town should be a vital part of your visit. Coming alive after dark, around 7:00 pm, there are numerous restaurants, artisan shops, and a theater which offers an inexpensive and entertaining traditional dance. Guards from the nearby Palace stand to attention. The grand statue of Saint Mary beautifully overlooks the city. With the cobblestone streets and the flowers in the windows, it seems like stepping into a part of Spain. Among the attractions is a decadent chocolate shop and a place which sells decorative items made of tin. It's fun and enchanting. Don't miss an evening visiting La Ronda!

As for nightlife quito is a big NO. there are no great places to visit, the people around is not very nice or cute. Still, as for all the places, this is the only one that one can count as decent. there are a few places to eat and listen to music, spend time with the locals. But there is nothing extraordinary about it.

In some guide books they make out Calle La Ronda a must see little street of boutique shops and quaint architecture. I found it a huge disappointment and an ugly part of town compared to much nicer parts of the old town. It is at the Panecillo hill end of the old town, just as the streets open out into a huge paved area. It didn't feel very safe and a stage was set up for some heavy rock music festival.

This street is 5-6 blocks long, and it is packed full of various stores, shoppes, and bars. there are also always street performers of all styles, from painters to dancers. it is a wonderful street to talk a saunter down at night, and is always packed full of locals and tourists alike. The bars/pubs love their karokee as well, and you can be assured of hearing people sing all manner of songs. well worth the cab ride back to your hostel later at night. even during the afternoon both days we walked down there were some street performers and many shoppes open.
