Colonial house is a hostel near Old Town Quito which preserves much of its Latin architecture and flair. The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful, even when we initially arrived at 1:30am. We did book online for a particular room with a private bathroom, which we only got once out of our four separate stays there, despite our asking for it, as they had already placed guests in the room. The rooms were clean twice and dirty twice on initial check-in. The first time the bathroom was not cleaned and had feces in the toilet, and the second time, the sheets were dirty.
There is a small local market just down the street near a panaderia, a local pharmacy, and some local restaurants. If you are a light sleeper on the street side, the market may wake you in the morning. The garden rooms are much quieter in the early morning hours.
We used the taxi service to and from the airport several times without problem, and the drivers the hostel uses are very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. All in all, the service was very nice, but the facilities could use a nice deep clean.More
