This museum, just up from San Domingo is housed in an old hospital around two courtyards which have all been beautifully restored. It tells the story of Quito from its beginnings, through Spanish rule to today. Exhibits are a mixture of reconstructions, objects, holograms, projections and pictures. Information is predominately in Spanish, but look out for the pull up English translations behind the Spanish text. The beautiful old hospital church is now used as an temporary exhibition space. There is one room explaining the history of the old hospital. Unfortunately the cafe in the second courtyard is currently closed.
