Meeting up with a fb friend during our stay in Quito, he suggested this lovely, quaint place in El Cento historico.. Fabulous food with excellent prices, good portions, and very good service! A must if in the area!

We had an excellent meal at El Portal de Benalcazar. We especially loved the homemade lemonade and the potato soup. It was delicious. Great service too!

We stumbled upon Portal de Benalcazar during our recent brief stay in Quito on the way home from Galapagos and are very glad we did. We enjoyed a delightful lunch in this cozy and pretty restaurant surrounded by quirky Ecuadorean artifacts and antiques. The menu is extensive, with photos of most dishes, the prices are very, very reasonable (average entree about $6-$7), and the food is fresh, delicious, and well-presented. The owner spent time explaining some of the dishes to us and was very proud of his good TripAdvisor rating. A great stop in a day spent trying to cram as much culture as possible into 12 hours!

I ate here twice, and was pleased both time. A very traditional Ecuadorian menu, with English translations. I had seco de chivo (goat or lamb) which was quite good and a very good deal at $6. A nice traditional atmosphere as well, and friendly and eager to please staff. A much better deal than the restaurants in the Archbishop's Palace on Plaza Grande.

It took too long to get service, the place smelled funny, food was not bad nor great. the menu items were overpriced, there are better places to go.
