“Good value, friendly staff.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2013 via mobile

Great value place, really friendly family running the place who were patient with my crappy Spanish. Wifi works well. Towels and soap provided, pretty rare to find in our travels of South America this far.
Good book exchange. Great value.
Would stay again

Stayed here on two occasions. The 2nd time was in a twin room with a shared bath on the 3rd floor. Very basic, but adequate, and the bed was soft at least. My only complaint, given the price, was the grandfather clock or whatever it was starting up at 0600 and going off incessantly and regularly - guess they want you up and out early! The second time was in a private double with an ensuite. Sounded nice, but I think they saved their worst for me. Room #6, ground floor, no window to ventilate the horrible sewage smell coming from the bathroom. All I could do was leave the front door open for a while to lessen the smell, but couldn't sleep that way safely (wish someone made the equiv. of earplugs for the nose!). If by giving me this room they wanted my repeat business, wrong - it's too competitive out there, and I won't be recommending it to anyone nor would ever come back myself, that's for sure).

Located at a beautiful square, San blas is a cosy hostel only 400m away from Quito's old town. San blas square is also about 6min or 3$ taxi drive to the buzz of La Meriscal

The hostel offers en suite double and twin rooms, which are decently clean with basic bathroom facilities with hot water. There is even a small TV in the room (did not try it out though!). The hostel offers free coffee and tee in the little indoor courtyard.
And this is where the problem exists. Because of the structure of the building (rooms are located on ground + 2 floors) built around a centre courtyard with only inside windows to the courtyard, it lacks natural daylight and can get quite noisy... With an open window (needed to get some air) you can practically hear everyone walking up and down the stairs, in and out their rooms, open and closing doors....
That's a huge minus if you are noise sensitive but other than that recommendable.

Hostal San Blas, run by the owner, gives a very personal and warm and very clean environment, the prices (single or shared) can’t be compare with any other from $10 to $15 with private bathroom. “Don Angel” and his family goes the extra miles for their guest….A very big GRACIAS for their hospitality..:))

Room Tip: second floor, first floor bit busy with travelers...

I stayed in Hostal San Blas for 5 nights. I had my own private room with ensuite for a mere $15 a night. Bargain. The rooms are small, but adequate (and can be noisy- bring earplugs) and the location is pretty good. On the down side, there is no kitchen, the rooms do not get any natural light (no external windows probably make them safer- but it is a bit disconcerting at times) and there is no real 'communal area'- as a solo backpacker I rely on these to meet others! However, if all you want a reasonably priced room to rest your head at night- this would be perfect. Also, it's worth noting- there are very few restaurants/bars around here. Head to the Mariscal District if that's your thing :)

This hostel is in a great location in Quito Old Town, and is very close to many of the transport routes, making it easy to catch a bus anywhere around Quito.
The rooms are good value, and clean. The hostel has free wifi, luggage storage and tea and coffee. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and give some good tips on safety in Quito (sit near the bus driver, taxis at night).
Rooms can be noisy downstairs, but upstairs was much better.
I would definitely stay here again.

Very clean and unique looking rooms with private bathrooms and hot water. The location is excellent and beautiful just next to Plaza San Blas. It is very easy to get a taxi to/from the hostel and main bus lines are just 2 minutes walk away.

Staff was friend and always willing to help. Some of them speak only little English. The walls are so thick that wifi works only in lounge area. They had very cheap and quick laundry service. Nights were very quiet. Location and rooms are suitable for families who like simple rooms with good price.
