Although a very small hotel remodeled from a wealthy Spanish family mansion built around WWI, Casa Gangotena meets any standard for luxury world-wide. Because we value quiet, we chose a "Luxury plus" room overlooking a small garden and across to the mountain at the rear of the hotel, rather than one in front. The room was large, with a small sitting area and a large bath with walk-in shower. Everything in the room was of top quality.
The hotel is on a main square of the old town with major places of interest easily within walking distance. Because we traveled to Quito with the airline from hell, LAN, we missed (and paid for) a full night not used, so, with only one night, we did not enjoy all that the hotel offered, including the restaurant for dinner. Room service dinner in our robes after long hot showers for two over-tired, unhappy travelers was excellent; food, wine and service. The breakfast offered was adequate, with good service, but was not memorable as with other equally up-scale famous hotels. We both enjoyed excellent massages.
The reception staff is friendly and helpful.

Amazing hotel and service.
Very helpful with organizing excursions tailored to our needs.
Staff was wonderful.
One of the best breakfast buffets we have ever encountered.
We had Dinner twice. Food was outstanding.

The only thing we missed was a minibar/fridge in the room.

Dear Peter S,

Thank you very much for sharing your comments about our hotel with the Trip Advisor community.
I am very pleased to know that you consider Casa Gangotena as the best hotel in Quito.
Regarding the minibar: we took the decision of not having them in the rooms as a standard, but instead to provide a quick and excellent In Room dining service, that of course includes having the beverage of your choice made and delivered by our very talented bar tenders. Having said that I would also like to point out that mini fridges are available if a guest request one to be placed in their room, for storage purposes.
Once again thank you very much!

Everything about Casa Gangotena was perfect. The bedroom and bathroom were beautiful and quiet, the service was spot on and the restaurant served fabulous international and local cuisine. The concierge arranged my transportation from the airport to the hotel at midnight (great english speaking driver full of information about Ecuador), an amazing Ecuadorean guide to explore Quito (who, as it turns out went to high school for a year in the USA in the town next to where I grew up) and my transportation to Otavalo (another fabulous interesting driver who spoke perfect english). I was a bit worried about traveling solo to Ecuador, but the concierge at the hotel made sure I was well taken care of. I highly recommend this hotel for its service and location.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room request an interior room overlooking the atrium would be perfect.

We had a wonderful stay in Quito at this lovely hotel. Staff was attentive and helpful. Breakfast buffet was well done, and the room was spacious and well-appointed. Since we only spent two days in Quito after our Galapagos and Avenue of the Volcanoes adventure, the central location was ideal.

Beautiful building with marble everywhere, gorgeous circular staircase (there's an elevator too;), lovely guest rooms, restaurant, breakfast, etc. etc. Highest recommendation. Would stay there again in a heartbeat. Oh, complimentary afternoon tea was fabulous as well.
