In a hurry to put together the final details for our month in Ecuador I chose Hostal La Casa Toleña from an online hotel reservation source. The reviews were fine. We weren't looking for fancy. Our goal was overnight accommodation since Quito would be the hub for Galapagos and Amazon excursions. They were 15 minutes from the airport, but we played it safe and only secured one night. Mind you, the price is ultra cheap and Quito can be dicey.
I cannot emphasize enough how much we enjoyed our stay at Hostal La Casa Toleña. It isn't fancy, but does offer a nice view of the Old City and Basilica from the hodge podge roof top lounge. The rooms are adequetly appointed and ours was called the "junior suite". It allowed extra space and room to organize all the treasures we were accumulating in our travels. It was quite a climb up narrow stairs. If your not into physical exertion check out a 1st or 2nd floor room. Truly, I would have called this an unremarkable location until we spent some time there. Immediately we noticed how generous and accommodating the owners were. We ended up returning back every visit to Quito, and they were gracious enough to store our overflow luggage. By the end of our journey, it felt as if we were parting ways with family and would stay there again without hesitation.
