We spent a total of 5 nights at the Marriott at 3 points in our trip to Ecuador (3 nts in the beginning, 1 before and 1 after our cruise). It was perfect for us. The hotel is large and well maintained. The staff was very nice and the front desk receptionist even remember me when I checked in for our 2nd stay saying "Welcome back." Check-in was quick and easy. We had a small glitch after the first day in that they never cleaned the room. We learned it was because they thought we were only staying 1 night but after a call it was all worked out and they were very apologetic. For some of our nights we were using points and they upgraded us giving us "club" privileges, which was a nice treat. I don't think I would pay $61 dollars more for it because really the breakfast is what is best. The evening fingers foods weren't as extensive as other hotels we have stayed in and they often ran out of certain sodas.

The public sppaces are lovely. There is a grand lobby with lots of those beautiful Ecuadorian roses and light. My husband and daughter were impressed byt the fitness center with my husband declaring it was one of the best equipped he had seen. The pool is beautiful and is heated although the only "shallow" area was at the steps. My DD is over 50" tall and she could not touch the bottom with her head above water at any place in the pool but we still enjoyed our evening swim. There were 2 restaurants that I saw. We ate once at the Bistro just because we were too tired to go out. The food was good. It was moderately priced (American prices). While the service was friendly it was extremely slow. The restaurant was practically empty but it took effort for us to get refills, our check etc... and more frustrating is that the three wait staff were in view close by but too busy chatting with each other. Nice little gift shop in the hotel.

We used either the hotel shuttle or their taxis for transport to and from the airport. That was a big comfort factor for me just knowing they are assocaited with the hotel and safe, plus I liked being able to put those fares on our bill. We used a hotel taxi to go to dinner one night - about a 10 minute ride and it was $3. The taxi called byt the restaurant to take us back cost $4. So taxis from the Marriott are not necessarily more expensive.

Our double room was very comfortable. I like the linens used. The beds were fairly comfortable and I have a bad back but did fine sleeping on them. There was a frig, safe, flat screen TV with lots of channels, a bottle of water for wach of us. Our third room was the best. It had an Ipod docking station and the bathroom was huge with deep tub, separate shower and toilet room.

There are a couple of restaurants nearby but we only ate out once given late lunches, late arrival one night etc...

Overall I would definitely recommend the Marriott. It exceeded my expectations. I know some folks want more "local" or historic atmosphere which is fine but we did not need that for our stay in Quito given that we stayed in such places in other parts of Ecuador we visited. We actually enjoyed the fact that the Marriott provided some of the comforts of home. If we were to return to Quito we would definitely stay at the Marriott again.

The hotel itself is nice, but pretty standard for this type of hotel. It felt big and generic, no real atmosphere or character. Other than the quite beautiful flower arrangements, you couldn't feel if the hotel was in Quito or any other city.

Check-in was quite slow in finding my reservation, going through the process and passport details. But once checked in I have to compliment the front desk staff for being super helpful, professional and service-minded.

However on check-out there were problems with the bill. Everyone in our party had identical problems of additional "mistaken" charges added on and I noted at least one other guest checking out going through the same process. It seemed like a systemic problem with billings and not a one-off mistake. Internet was double charged consistently for example and they consistently had problems with the restaurant charging us for breakfast that was included in our room. But worse is they charged my credit card two duplicate transactions and it was a terrible time getting this reversed. This sort of sloppiness is unacceptable for a large hotel chain like this. Watch your bills and credit card statements carefully!

Check-in: A little slow, most likely due to photocopying passports and such.

Security: Outstanding, although Quito is rapidly becoming a safe, modern city. I feel safer here than Miami or Los Angeles. Key card acces to both elevator and room.

Rooms: Clean, big, huge bathtub, bottled water, American movie channels galore.

Extras: Awesome gym and pool! Similar to a fancy health club. Plenty of restaurants and room service to choose from. Concierge and staff will sprint to get things for you. And we got free breakfast, which was a great buffet downstairs by the pool.

20 minutes to the airport.

Downers: Had to pay through the nose for internet access.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony.

The entire lobby area and its' surroundings of this hotel are remarkably beautiful with all the Ecuadorian flower arrangements, etc. It was pleasant to come and go from. Nice service. However, beware that almost everything you choose to do is extra including the shuttle service to and from the airport. They charged $10 each way for a 2 mile trip. I found that to be excessive. It would not keep me from staying there again but I found it irritating.

Room Tip: The double queen room had very uncomfortable beds.

Celebrity uses this hotel as a base for people taking its Galapagos cruise. It is very comfortable, offers a very good breakfast buffet, and provides plenty of bottled water. Highly recommended.

We stayed here on either end of a trip to the Galapagos. We were with a small group so they arranged a separate check in which was flawless both times. At check in we were offered a cold drink that tasted like a thick blackberry juice. Not sure what it was, but it was a great treat, especially after a long travel day. We tried to find it in the bar to add a little "kick" to it, but were unsuccessful.

This is your typical Marriott, large public areas with nice architectural touches. The rooms are quiet and spotless The bathrooms are large with a separate shower. This one is remarkable for the incredibly friendly and helpful staff. They could not do enough for our group. The food was fairly standard fare with a South American flavor.

Highly recommend this property.

The JW Marriott wins hands down in terms of style and decor. It is truly luxurious and has wonderfully comfortable beds. Now, the Radission is one step down but has a lot more services included such as wi-fi, ( :D ) free airport shuttle, 3 free long distance call minutes, and in our case free breakfast. From a location point, both are great, although the Radission was facing a slightly noisier street.
