Surprisingly good hotel based on a lot of quality items: service is excellent, location is great, just across the Parque La Carolina with excellent joggings paths, whether early morning, afternoon or late evening, great breakfast buffet and great amenities. Rooms are spacious with huge windows for great natural lighting and view
Kind of undestated gem well worth trying

Room Tip: 12th floor provides great city view

I assume that those reading this review have not visited Quito before. The city is somewhat similar to LA in that it doesn't have one downtown, but three commercial hubs: Old Town, New Town (aka Mariscal) and La Carolina. The Howard Johnson (HoJo) is on the outskirts of La Carolina. Minor inconvenience for those who prefer to walk, but cabs are cheap and abundant in Quito (except going to/from the airport, that's $25 one way). We found our room rate on bookit.com (excellent booking choice with deep, exclusive savings), got our 2 queen for $80/night (this doesn't include the 22% tax on all Quito hotels). Modern Quito lodging can be very pricy, e.g. $200/night at the Hilton, so this was a great bargain. The hotel was clean and new, the beds were comfy, bathrooms modern, it was great. There is a fitness and business center, but NO POOL. Also, no rates include breakfast, charged at $11 per person I believe. They have free, fast WiFi as well.

Room Tip: If you book through a third party, it will go down in their books as one person for the room, and th...

Great hotel. I travel a lot for work and this is probably the best chain I have been to. Great service, wonderful little extra touches (e.g., bath robe in room, little chocolates, etc.) and beautiful modern design to the rooms. Room service was very fast and affordable. Would definitely return.

Room Tip: I was on the 6th floor and even though I am a light sleeper, had no problems.

Hard to find a more helpful and friendly staff. Good restaurant. Ask for a room that does not face the main street as there is no noise abatement. Airport is 45 Km away, so early morning flights require arising very early. This is not unique to HOJO as there are not many hotels near the new airport.

I stayed one night at this hotel after arriving from Miami. It is in the heart of the city, so it took 45 minutes to get there from the new airport, late at night with very little traffic. Because I was not doing any touring in the city, I would stay next time at a hotel near the airport. (Please see my forthcoming review of Su Merced in Puembo. ) That said, I would stay at La Carolina again if I were planning to spend time in the city. La Carolina was comfortable and reasonably quiet except for passing traffic and those car alarms whose use seems to live on and on in Quito. The breakfast spread was attractive, with many choices, and service came with a smile. I wish they had opened for breakfast a half hour earlier, though, as I needed to be picked up for my transport to Mindo and birdwatching along the way. All in all, a good choice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face a street.

I spent a few days in this hotel on my way to the north border and back. It was especially relaxing on the way back, when I really appreciated the comfort offered by the extremely kind staff of the hotel. Great choice of food at breakfast.
