I spent 4 nights in Quito and was very pleased with my decision to stay at the Radisson Royal. The price for a standard room was so cheap (89$) that I had no problem springing for a suite at 129 dollar a night. My suite was spacious and well-appointed, with a modern and clean feel to it. A very nice room to spend some time in between my morning activities and evening activities in Quito.

The hotel also deserves a lot of credit for the way they treated me. At the time I was just an entry-level member in Radisson's ClubCarlson program -- certainly not a VIP -- and yet I was greeted with warm spiced cider at check-in, a dessert waiting in my room, and impressive service throughout my stay. Touches like that can make a trip more special.

In addition, the location is fine for New Town and a cheap taxi ride from Old Town, there are a bunch of restaurants within walking distance, and the neighborhood felt safe at night. Essentially, I see no reason not to give the Radisson Royal Quito a ***** rating.

We stayed two nights going and one night on the return to the Galapagos Islands. Suites are clean, roomy, quite, and comfortable. The staff were all very nice, friendly, and helpful. As others mention you do need to take a Taxi to get around, but they are very reasonably priced. It takes about 15 minutes to get the Airport if you are traveling before 6:00 AM or after 6:00PM, any other time it could be 30 minutes to a hour depending on the horrendous amount of traffic.
If you have a free day be sure to do the Center of The World Tour, simply amazing.
The only negative comments for this hotel, their internet service did not work, they put a pint bottle of water next to the coffee maker on the bathroom counter and charge $ 7 dollars for it, and the buffet breakfast is way over priced. But you can work around all of this, I will stay here again if i go back.

We stayed here three nights on our Galapagos trip with Friendly Planet. The rooms were fantastic and good restauarants were within walking distance. A full breakfast at the in house restaurant is includeed. Happy hour is from 5PM - 7PM and includes two FREE beers or two FREE glasses of wine plus FREE snacks. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Room Tip: They assigned us a "Business Class" room and it was fantastic. A little bigger than the...

Stayed for just one night, en route from Quito to Galapagos. My room was comfortable and quiet. The staff were very friendly, especially Santiago who was also extremely helpful in sorting out our transportation problems. Lots of variety in the buffet breakfast, though it cost $15 per person. Would definitely come back again.

The rooms were very comfortable, and the daily happy hour was a nice touch to wind down.

The hotel is centrally located, but unfortunately you still need a taxi to reach distances beyond the immediate vicinity of the hotel for safety reasons. That is not specific to the Radisson, but to all hotels in this part of the city.

Breakfast was good, not great.

The staff at the front desk was very helpful and provided service with a smile.

Let us start by saying we are not your average Radisson types. Usually when we're adventuring we go for a more local mom and pop experience, especially in South America. But we were arriving late in the evening, we found a deal on hotels.com, and we just figured what the heck. Now there's no going back. The service here is five star. The staff always seem happy to see you and help out with whatever requests you have. It feels less like a chain than some exclusive boutique hotel, without the snobby attitude. The location is kind of in between, but that just means you can walk down to the trendy spots, or to the old town. Or, if you feel uncomfortable, let them hail you a taxi. Breakfast is well worth the price (even if you're on a budget–splurge and gorge and you'll eat enough to keep you going through dinner), and at the rate we got it was included in the price on Sunday. Overall, if you've got the budget, we wouldn't recommend staying anywhere else. And if you don't have the budget, do what you can to stretch it!

We visited the Radisson 3/12-3/17. Their shuttle service picked us up at the airport, we were told $20, but it ended up being free. (tip - it depends on which flight you arrive on). Upon arrival at the hotel, we were given a welcome drink - mixed fruit - (non alcoholic). Check-in was fast and we were able to go to our room to rest after a 12 hr flight. The maid service later brought us a welcome snack. Upon check-in they do advise the hotel provides 3min free for calls domestic/international p/day. (please don't go over, because they charged us an additional $25 for about 3 min over their 3 minutes). They also have it where you can't use a calling card - due to them "gifting" you the free minutes. I do have to say the hotel employees were very friendly and accomodating. (no problem there). The rooms were decent, cozy, but nothing to write home about, we had a 2 beds, a flat screen t.v and a small sitting area. (they almost didn't seem to match the ambience of the lobby). There is a daily buffet breakfast for $15 p/p-p/day. We opted out of that. Also, Mon-Fri the hotel provides a complimentary happy hour with light snacks and 2 glasses or wine/beer or soda. We only ate at the restaurant once during our stay, just to taste the food - I loved the empanadas. You'll find food is much cheaper in the local restaurants a little further down the street. Where they charge you $10-15 at the hotels for a meal, down the street it would be $3-$4 (venture out). EX. the hotel had a bottle of water for $7, I bought the same bottle of water at a local store for $.70.There's a Venezuelan restaurant around the corner from the hotel, (going towards the trade center), their food was GREAT! On our return we were told the shuttle stops running at 12p on Saturdays, but the hotel taxi service to the airport was only $8. Not bad - also if you use the local taxis be careful, but most the rides are literally $1-$2. The hotel does accomodate late check-out until 6pm based on availability and I think there was like a $15 charge (that was on the final bill).

During our stay, we did have the hotel - guest services - arrange a tour to Otovalo/ecuator - $165, but they gave us a little discount - $145 for 2 people. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. On another day we payed $45 for 2, for a city tour to see the local sights. (all arranged by the hotel)

Now, the only complaint I'd probably have was the noise in the hotel. You could hear every door that opened and closed. The maids start early, so we really never got to sleep in. We were put next to a room that seemed to be being renevated. Oh my goodness, it was awful. You could hear them moving furniture, the maitenance man hammering etc. and the maid service seriously was too attentive. It seemed everytime we laid down to rest they were knocking on the door to see if we needed anything.

One thing I did learn about Quito is - nothing is free. Make sure to ask how much everything is - if you're on a budget. At the end of our stay - we had so many different taxes and charges on our hotel bill that it took us 3 different printouts to get everything correct (minus about $40 later).
