Gorgeous church. We just happened to go on a Monday when no admission was charged. To get in, just ask the man at the gate to open the gate for you.

The guilded church is beautiful. Its amazing and breathtaking to behold, not comparable to the churches of Rome of course but still beautiful.

“Not as nice as some others.”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

This church is not very pretty from the outside but it is rated No. 1 so we paid the $4.00 and went inside. It was all gold; everything was covered in gold. While this obviously took a great deal of time, effort, and skill, I found it a bit gaudy. We didn't stay very long and were not allowed to even take photos.

“A glittering jewel”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

The guilding in this Jesuit church is stupendous beyond description. Unfortunately, photos are prohibited inside, which makes it difficult to convey the full brilliance of this baroque masterpiece. Every surface seems to be covered with gold. A fire created a lot of smoke damage, but it's all been cleaned up except for one cherub's face in the central dome that was left black as evidence. The alter is especially grand. Be sure to take the trip to the cupolas, which offers a fine view of the city and particularly of Plaza San Francisco, as well as the interior of the dome and the church below.

The details are fascinating, the way the native culture is present is impressive and delicate. We definitely feel the presence of spanish and islamic decoration style
