“One of the best Churches ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

Says the legend, that hundreds of years a go, there was an Indian who make a deal with the devil, he sold his soul if the devil build the church, but, the devil couldn't make it on time, he miss one stone, so the Indian was saved, there is still you can see a hole on the church, and they said that's the hole from the missing stone....true.. Or not..? But this is one of the best places to visit in Quito, at the same time some other churches there....beautifull places...!!

“Baroque Gone Wild”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

The San Francisco is a riot of South American Baroque decoration. Every feature of the church is covered in gold carvings, mirrored elements and religious statuary. This is in great contrast to the exterior which is rather plain and reserved while also being very elegant.

“Immense”

The museum is mostly religious artifacts but the building and grounds are also well worth a visit. Find your way up the stairs to the choir and pipe organ loft overlooking the main sanctuary of the cathedral.

“San Francisco church and museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2013

Along with Compania de Jesus, the most beautiful example of
rococo architecture in Quito. The church is spectacular and somewhat different in design from Compania. But it is just as
lushly gold and full of art. Not to be missed.

“An amazing architectural feat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2013

A most beautiful church that took 400 years to complete and no modern day tools to do it! The artistry of the draings and sculptures was amazing and the fact that it was a 5 minute walk from my hotel was a plus
