The church includes a monastery, hospital and a new cafe. You wind your way around rooms to learn the history and about the earliest Europeans to settle here. The nuns took care of the sick and there is re-creation of medical treatment at this time. It also includes recreations of life in the late 1500s in Quito.

San Francisco was the first church built in Quito. It is important baroque church. The ceilings have a beautiful Moorish design, In the entryway you will notice images of the sun, which were used to lure indigenous people to the Christian religion.

Apparently the oldest church in the Americas, it seems the Spanish recycled some the Inca's gold. its quite stunning and definitely worth the stop off. There is a lovely peaceful courtyard in the Museum section.

The Iglesia de San Francisco is a beautiful church. You are not allowed to take pictures inside but there are so many beautiful things to see. The Plaza in front of the church is a fantastic place to sit down and watch the local people going about their lives.

This is one of the preserved churches in Quito and the exterior, although currently in repair, is amazing. The detail work will astound you.
