“comfortable rooms and helpful staff”
Reviewed 29 September 2011

My husband and I stayed at Antinea Hotel for several nights at the beginning and end of our trip to Ecuador. The rooms were comfortable, quiet, and clean. The bed was a little firm for my taste, but I slept just fine. The staff were very helpful with directions and getting taxis. Breakfast was nothing fancy, but still good. English, French, and Spanish are spoken at the hotel.

I enjoyed the courtyard and also a patio that had hammocks. It was a nice place to relax and wind down after a long day of sight seeing. Also, location was very convenient to many eateries in the Mariscal neighborhood.

Five of us (3 adults, 2 children) stayed comfortably at the Hotel Antinea for two nights in one of their apartments before a tour of the Avenue of the Volcanoes. The hotel is on a safe, quiet street in a great section of Quito close (about 4 blocks) to the Zona Rosa--a popular area for clubs and bars. On Sunday took a 10 minute walk to Parque Ejito which had sidewalk art vendors and an indigenous crafts market, along with bicycles for rent which could be ridden down Amazonas--closed to motor vehicles to allow for bike riding in mid-day.

The hotel itself is clean and comfortable. It doesn't have a lot of amenities, but it does have free WiFi and cable TV. It was a great, safe place to stay for the weekend in Quito and easy to grab a taxi or walk to a local restaurant or cafe for meals. The hotel offers "breakfast" with its overnight rate, but that only included juice, coffee and bread. We ordered eggs for an extra $2 per person to fill us for the morning.

Room Tip: The 6 person apartment had some views of the mountains around Quito

I have traveled all over the place and really do find the positives in most any location because that's what traveling is all about. However, there's little positive feedback about this dingy hotel. Our room (#10) felt a little like a dungeon with dust on most of the fake plants in the room. One bed was lumpy and had no support while the other felt like you were sleeping directly on a box spring. The whole hotel had a very dark feeling and far from cozy I found it somewhat creepy. The staff was nice but unfortunately they came with the location. I was glad we had a full itinerary to avoid spending too much time in the room. Our other hotel in Quito during this trip was Hostal de la rabida….similar cost and a superior choice

Room Tip: don't choose #10

The Antinea management have got it just right. Great rooms, nice breakfast, really nice location. Has the feeling of a European boutique hotel. if you want an evening meal the staff will order you a takeaway from nearby restaurant and bring it on a tray to your room, just like real room-service but with better food. I paid between $70 and $85 p/n for different rooms on different visits.

Good location. Fair value. Terrible rooms and worse breakfast. We booked two nights, just to check it out. Having done that, just let me say that I wouldn't stay here again if you were paying.

Their free breakfast is coffee and two croissants.

Could be a great spot with minimal effort but evidently they are not willing to change the status quo.

The hotel is located in "Backpacker Central" and is probably their target audience.

Nice location aprox 20mins from the airport. Veronica arranged my transport to the hotel and the driver was there waiting when my plane arrived. The room was clean, the bed was so comfortable. I felt like I was staying at a friends house. A great place to stay if you are looking for a more personal experience.

Recently, I stayed 8 nights at this delightful "boutique" hotel. An old-world charm and graciousness is infused in every part of this hotel - from the the welcoming lobby with fireplace to the comfortable beamed-ceiling room to the garden-like atmosphere of the breakfast room. I had a delightful room, with live plants and a small terrace overlooking the street and felt a part of the city.
The staff - Veronica, Gallo, Rosita, Nelson, Louis - that I met were considerate, polite, helpful and made me feel at home - important as I was traveling alone.
Veronica arranged an airport pick-up for me, arranged a tour of the Mitad del Mundo, answered all my questions and arranged a car to drop me off at the airport. I felt I was leaving home when I left - next day I was a little homesick for the Antinea
