“Really good hotel”
Reviewed 18 March 2013

In my experience, this was a great hotel. Good mix of traditional Ecuadorian and Western food, and rooms were clean. Staff all were very friendly, although limited in English we communicated just fine. Great security, and the fact that they provided and re-supplied us with water was nice. AMAZING view out of top floor. I was in room 307, and it had a nice view as well. Very interesting. Not your all inclusive, but in a city where outer walls of places are sometimes topped with broken glass, It could have been MUCH MUCH worse. Overall, great experience!

One note: Update the TVs in the rooms and make the remote controls easier to find!

good views from restaurant and food was ok. Get breakfast early for edible buffet eggs. Rooms comfortable but as already mentioned have thin walls and can be noisy with hallway traffic and overhead noise, poor lighting in room and small computer table. Third floor gets the balcony smokers so avoid if smokey hallway air bothers you. Staff pleasant, hotel could use a good map of the old town area, main map used is a bit of a blur. Lucked out with the festival and great music, parade in the streets. Overall a bit expensive for the services but great location and views.

Room Tip: avoid third floor, smoking balconys/windows

My experience of the hotel was as follows. Top floor restaurant offers great panoramic views and the food is good and well priced. Nice quality bed linens and curtains. Very, very old furniture, carpet, plumbing and TV. Walls very thin and sound travels quite a bit. Hotel staff able to offer only a minimal amount of tourist information.

I stayed there because it was downtown, but I don't think I'd stay downtown again.

I booked late and paid what I now think was too much. I think that if you want to spend more that $40 per night, you could probably do better.

We stayed here 3 nights and found the staff helpful, breakfast adequate, and the location central and safe. The dining room where breakfast is served is on the top floor with gorgeous view of Plaza and rising Panecillo with its large statue of the Virgin glistening or barely visible (depending on always changing cloud cover).
We had room # 2B (The Bolivar suite) big room with lots of space and nice bathroom. We had hot water issues several late mornings (after 9am) At 7am it was fine. I would give higher rating if not for that.

Room Tip: They repainting/ remodeling room 2A. (San Martin suite) It has corner location with best view of the...

Wonderfully located in the Old Town of Quito, where the majority of Quito’s sights are to be found within about a ten block radius. Certainly, in order to get to get to some of the sights in outer areas, either a taxi or local transport is required. However, the metro station is only three blocks from the hotel, or alternatively, the city tour bus will take you to most out of the Old town sights for very little cost.
Due to missed bus connection, I arrived ten hours later than expected, at 4am of the following day I was expected, and yet they had held the room, and sped me through the registration process so that I could get some badly needed sleep. Subsequent service and response to many questions asked regarding local transport and sights was exceptional, and always with genuine warmth and pleasantness.
Rooms are large, and complete with all the furnishings you require.
Two real bonuses were the daily replenishment of bottled water, which I have not found in any other hotel, and the ability to keep an eye on the Santo Domingo church as to when it was open, which is an absolute, must see when it is.
Hotel also has a wonderful restaurant on the top floor, which allows you to have a wonderful breakfast, lunch or dinner, while also enjoying a panoramic view of the Old town of Quito.

We stayed there for just one night before heading to another country. The hotel is very simple but the staff is very nice. There is no elevator but the staff took the luggage to our room. There is no heating, which concerned us at the beginning but it wasn't a problem because we didn't get cold.

The rooms are a bit old but clean and have carpet on the floor. I haven't tried their breakfast buffet but they had boxed breakfast ready for at 4:30AM, which wasn't tasty but it was a nice complement considering the low rate we were paying.

Overall it was a good choice!

My family of four -- 2 adults and 2 kids ages 12 and 15 -- stayed at the Hotel Real Audiencia on 3 separate occasions during our 3 1/2 week trip to Ecuador in the summer of 2012 (when in Ecuador, all roads seem to lead back to Quito!) We had a wonderful stay. The Hotel is an older boutique hotel in the Old Town of Quito, which we found vastly more interesting and enjoyable than the Marisol district (New Town) where most of the "gringo" hotels and restaurants are. Old Town is very walkable, but to get to the New Town, you do need to take a trolley or taxi. The hotel is right across from a trolley stop and the desk staff was able to get us a taxi with in a few minutes of our requesting one. Taxis are cheap in Quito, but make sure that you have small bills since the drivers never seem to carry change. The rooms in the Real Audiencia vary greatly. Our room the first night had room for 4 but had a sleeping loft and was very small. We asked for a different room the next morning and the staff was so patient, giving us a tour of all the available rooms so we could choose our favorite. We ended up with a beautiful, huge suite overlooking the square with windows all around... we loved it. Also, I can't say enough about the kindness and friendliness of the staff. My younger son got sick in Quito and we needed to go to the emergency room. The desk staff gave us advice, got us a taxi, gave us directions to a pharmacy and, in general, were very kind. Some of the night staff don't speak much English, but they were patient and tenacious with our preschool-level spanish skills. The breakfast room at the Hotel is very pleasant. We had dinner there one night and it was fine, although the view was more impressive than the food, which was tasty but not particularly memorable. There aren't as many restaurants in Old Town as in the Marisol, but the Real Audiencia is close to La Ronda and the Plaza Grande, both of which have several options for dinner. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Real Audiencia..

Room Tip: Ask about all the available options -- we loved our corner room. It was huge, had lots of light and...
