Very cool looking buildings. The day i went there was a choir of children singing. Never had any trouble, lots of good memories.

“Beautiful plaza with beautiful views”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

Everywhere you turn in the Plaza de San Francisco you encounter a marvelous view of Quito (including El Panecillo). The plaza, although bustling, has a peaceful atmosphere and is a great place to visit while in Quito.

“People and Pigeon plaza”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

A very nice square where to break your journey when exploring Quito old town. There is a very nice café at the foot of the steps leading up to the church. It is an ideal spot for people watching or watching the pigeons fly between rooftops. There's a market here at weekends. The fountain in the middle is a reminder of the time when indigenous people obtained their water from here. It is safe here when it is busy, but be careful from 5pm onwards. Make sure you visit the church, and then head over to the green domed La Compania Church.

“The Oldest Barrio of Quito”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

Iglesia San Francisco and its Plaza are the oldest in Quito. Located in Barrio San Roque (the oldest barrio in Quito) this plaza is the heart and center of the neighborhood.

The plaza was once home to a large outdoor market which has since been relocated to an indoor location further up on Rocafuerte. Since that time the plaza has become a gathering place for locals, visitors and pigeons. Often, the city of Quito will hold festivals and concerts in the plaza.

Be sure to peek into the Cathedral of Iglesia San Francisco and visit their museum.

For those wanting a true cultural experience take a tour with Caminos de San Roque, an urban community tourism project which takes visitors through the barrio to visit local artisans and merchants.

The neighborhood is very safe during the day. Be careful late at night.

“Excellent Gift Shops”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

The series of gift shops at the base of the church had some outstanding products, masks, pottery, tapestry, scarves, and the prices were all reasonable.
