Description: After four amazing years in the beautiful San Marcos neighborhood, we've moved! We are now centrally located in the Mariscal district--close to the Plaza Foch but still a bit away from the crowds and noise. Our new home is a two-story house that features our restaurant upstairs, and a cafe, gallery, and fair trade store downstairs. And shhh! We've also got a secret terrace! You can now make your own juice on our bicycle blender with views of Quito! Our new menu has many of our classic vegetarian dishes, using organic local produce, along with our popular pastas and sandwiches. The downstairs cafe offers hand drip and Japanese siphon coffee, and a wide selection of herbal, fruit, and medicinal teas and infusions from across Ecuador. We also continue to have Quito craft beer, and our own artisanal brews. They sell out quick, but a high octane Belgian Triple or Triple IPA from our 10 gallon is only ever a few days away. Look for us on Facebook where we announce what's ready. And every Friday morning we open up the doors to our garage and feature some of the farmers from whom we source our produce and products. So come by and get your organic veggies straight from the source! We are excited to be part of the bustling Mariscal district and will be extending our evening hours for summer! Thank you for these amazing years of support and we look forward to seeing you in our new locale! The La Cuchara family.

“Hidden gem”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

We walked to this restaurant from our hotel in old town quito and took a taxi back. It is a little bit hidden but at the end of a quaint street. The food was excellent and for us our best meal in quito. The atmosphere is charming and we enjoyed the jazz music playing in the background. Selection of menu is broader with many vegetarian options, but also serving fish and meat. A must do while in quito.

“"A satisfying mix of the traditional and contemporary"”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

It took one visit to La Cuchara de San Marcos to make me a regular. The atmosphere and cuisine are first rate, the service excellent. The neighborhood is colorful, clean and safe, one of the nicer parts of the old city. The vegetarian fare is especially delicious. They serve outstanding locally-brewed beer and fire up some wicked mixed drinks. This is the place to take a date or a visitor from out of town. One of the best restaurants in Quito.

“Traditional Ecuadorian Fare with Flare”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

La Cuchara de San Marcos is a bit off the beaten track by being located in a primarily residential and "tranquilo" neighborhood of the Historical District of Quito.

It's located in the cul-de-sac of Junín just past Iglesia San Marcos. The neighborhood itself is very safe during the day but visitors unfamiliar with the neighborhood can easily find themselves is more dangerous areas at night. Be sure to have a taxi pick you up after dark.

Be prepared to spend time in this beautiful restaurant. The ambiance invites guests to relax, enjoy an artisan beer or glass of wine and dine on traditional yet elevated Ecuadorian dishes. Sample cuisines from the various regions of Ecuador and be sure to save room for desert!

The restaurant also includes a small gift shop of locally-made artisan crafts using recycled materials.

Staff is bilingual. Location is closed on Mondays

“More than just a place to eat!”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

La Cuchara was one of my favorite experiences in Quito which is saying a lot given how much I loved the city. It is tucked away in a hidden cul-de-sac but is worth seeking out. We were there on the last Sunday of the month which meant that we were able to enjoy great live jazz on their outdoor rooftop patio. We danced to the great music and enjoyed the beautiful community of people that seem to be drawn to this great place. Once the music ended, we settled in for a fresh, organic and delicious meal. There were plenty of choices on the menu, including lots of vegetarian options, and everyone in our party was thoroughly impressed. I ordered the Pesto Spaghetti and couldn't have been happier with my decision - I had to stop myself from licking the plate! Finally, the cocktails were delicious and potent. I highly recommend La Cuchara and will definitely be back!

“Excellent food!”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

The restaurant was hard to find, but it was worth the search. The place is very unique, nicely decorated and very cozy. The meals were not only tasty but also beautifully decorated. The only negative comment I have is that I thought the food was overpriced.
