What a great hostel! The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and helped us arrange taxis, trains, you name it. The layout of the hostel itself is great, with a huge, airplane hangar-looking common room on the top floor, with a pool table, a bar, beanbag chairs, a laptop and a table area. The hostel is spotless. The location is at the northern edge of the old town (right by the basilica). We would absolutely stay here again.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for three nights and were very pleased with this place. The location is perfect, walking distance from both the old city and Mariscal neighborhood. The beds are so comfortable and the place is really clean. There is a nice kitchen but little small and big nice communal area with computer and pool table. But what really makes this place highly recommended is Sandra! She is soooo helpful with everything, speaks perfect English and always with a big smile!! She really did her best to help us organize our trip, including finding us two more guests to split a taxi with to quilotoa lake! When we left very early Sandra gave us breakfast the night before and made sure we will have coffee in the morning. The only down side is breakfast, that was too small (1-2 pieces of bread, too little butter and jam, one piece of fruit and coffee). Also, during a shower the hot water completely ran out in a sec because they ran out of gas. My boyfriend stood freezing for about ten minutes until the problem was fixed. The staff tried his best to help and apologized million times, but still...
Bottom line, when you're in Quito, stay here!

I had the great privilege to be the first guest Minka Hostel had ever hosted. I had been by myself in Ecuador for a few months and was beginning to feel rather lonely. Though Minka at the time I visited had no wi-fi, no tv, and no private quarters, after a few minutes with the family here I knew that I had to stay with them. I'm glad I did. They showed me all the sights in the neighborhood and even tutored me in Spanish! And when I got food poisoning from a nearby restaurant, they made me their own personal home remedy tea and nursed me back to health. Sandra even took me out with her friends, and I saw parts of Quito I never would have seen on my own.

Many people have mentioned the superior facilities, and it's true, the facilities here are top notch. But the family here really makes you feel like you belong. My mom came to visit me at the tail end of my stay in Ecuador. She doesn't speak a word of Spanish, but she came away feeling cared for all the same. We went to Macchu Pichu during our time in South America, but my mom possible she spends more time telling people about the hostel than about the ruins. Perfect for youths and families. And so cheap!

Room Tip: I think they're all of comparable quality.

We definitely recommend this hostel! We went here several times because we used Quito as a starting point for some trips. The showers are incredible for ecuatorians (more like european standards). Really hot and great pressure. The hosting family is so nice. We were invited to celebrate the new years evening with them. Next to the hostel there is a laundry. Just ask at the reception and they will help you even though it is a sunday.
The hostel is nice located. You can walk to the historical center and the big basilica is just a block next to the hostel.

Thank for everything

Although it's just opened some months ago, the hostel is amazing. It has a really big space, which they probably will improve a lot (on the day we arrived, they were bringing a pool table). It's a very pleasant building, there's a terrace with lots of places to sit, hammock, tv, computer, kitchen and the tables and chair to have the meals and chat with other guests. There are also lots of drawings and photos related to travelling on the walls, so it's a beautiful and inspiring place to stay.

For now, they only have dorms, which are spacious, confortable and clean, as well as the bathroom. The shower works really well.

The breakfast is included and it's the only place where they give you fruit, not only bread, butter and jam!!

The place is owned and runned by a family, and they are so helpful and careful!! They put a lot of information about the city in the walls, and they have some guides from ecuador and some other places for you to check. They also explain everything you want to know, and even google when you ask them something you don't know exactly.
We went there with our car and had no parking that worked at night. So they let us put the car inside the building, in the entrance of the hostal, to keep it safe.

Basically, it was a very nice surprise in Quito! Recommend it to everybody!!!

I spent 2 nights in Quito with my family and we had a great stay in Minka Hostel! Its owned by a very nice family who make all the effort to make you feel nice and comfortable! It is a new hostel and we can see that they are still under construction in one floor, so i believe it is going to be even better!

- The location is very good and you can walk to the old center

- The dorms are clean and have a good space with new bunk beds, excellent mattresses and blankets and big lockers for everybody. They all have private clean bathrooms. The only thing missing are electricity plugs, since they have only 2 in each room. It should have at least one per bed.

- The common area is great and have a nice pool table and lots of movies!

- Kitchen is good, clean and complete! Very pleasure to cook!

- The have a good breakfast included and the prices are excellent!

They helped us a lot with everything and we definitely recommend Minka to stay in Quito! You will not regret!

Room Tip: Dorm 6 is the best!
