“Exceptional staff; rooms are OK”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

Some of the most engaged staff in Ecuador. The front bell men were ALWAYS there to make sure I was OK and got to my room without a problem. The woman in the moning who spoke Enclish very well was so gracious and patience. I enjoyed my trip here thoroughly. The location also made it perfect as well. I could walk through the front doors or stay in my room to walk through the procession for Good Friday. Fascinating.

We stayed here for two nights before a trip to the Galapagos and one night before going on to Buenos Aires. Its in a great location, and the staff are welcoming. The common areas are impressive too; very local with a bit of a historic feel. I found the rooms dark though - the first one had little natural light (only a lightwell) which I found claustrophobic and I was "upgraded" to a room with a window but we had to climb a wooden staircase to the bed/bathroom area. Charming but a little difficult although I do accept that the building is old and the room design was imaginative. I thought that the bathroom was below what is currently an acceptable standard and it needed a refit. The breakfast was good - we ate locally in the excellent "Mea Culpa" just a street or so away.

The hotel is conveniently located near Plaza de la Independencia. It's a great place to discover the top 10 architectural sites in the colonial town (monasteries, plazas, churches, museums...). The hotel itself has an outstanding staff service, the rooms look very well, no noise from the street or neighbors. We didn't eat at the hotel, but the breakfast buffet looked super. They invited us for dinner, complimentary for an unvoluntary pricing mistake. We felt very comfortable in every way we can imagine. Our second stay after 6 years.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights at this gorgeous facility and highly recommend it. The courtyard dining is an exquisite experience with unparalleled ambiance, and we found the menu more than adequate and the food quite good. The staff is very attentive, and Jimmy the doorman helped us locate a hardware store to purchase an electrical adapter we had left at home. The location is perfect for exploring the old town area on foot, and the front desk is happy to arrange taxi service, which we found helpful since we don't speak Spanish. The only downside we noticed is that the rooms are not well insulated against sound. We could hear late-arriving parties talking and closing doors. Thoughtfully, the desk provided us with earplugs for sleeping.

From the moment the doorman welcomes you into this downtown Quito hotel and you view the various bouquets of roses you know that you are going to enjoy your stay here. The rooms are situated around 2 courtyards; one being the main dining area and the other part of a quiet bar. The areas around the patios are beautiful with lovely sitting areas and beautiful trompe l'oeil paintings on the walls. Each room is different with large stylish furniture. Some rooms are 2 floors and some even have balconies overlooking the main patio. The breakfast buffet is lovely with fresh rolls, fruit and eggs. Service is wonderful and the coffee is great!
This hotel is located 1/2 block from the main square. It also has a very nice boutique.

Room Tip: Great variation of rooms. The ones in the back patio are quieter but the ones in the front are more...

Excellent location just a few minutes walk from the main square and the attractions, we had an exceptional view on the holy Thursday and Friday processions. Satisfying buffet breakfast in the patio full of light. Helpful and friendly staff.

We spent one night here en route to the Galapagos from Peru. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were clean, the location was great - in the historical district - and the staff were courteous, helpful and kind. The only reason this didn't get excellent was that the food was not great. Everything seemed to be overcooked and was either so bland that it wasn't worth eating or so hot it took the roof of your mouth off. Now I realize that food is very subjective, but after eating well at practically everywhere in Peru, this was a let down. However, it was Easter, so maybe the regular staff was off. Other than that, the hotel was great. No problem with noise even though we had a room on the first floor that opened onto a very pretty central courtyard.
