We stayed at the Patio Andaluz on a tour of Ecuador and the Galapagos with Furlongs Travel in October. Richard & Dawn Furlong do their researche carefully before selecting a hotel, and the Patio Andaluz exceeded our expectations. The hotel is charming, in an old colonial buiding full of character, with many interesting corners and features, including a well-stocked library and an indoor terrace with hammocks and loungers. The rooms are huge - ours was on 2 levels, with a spiral staircase leading to a second sleeping area and the en-suite bathroom upstairs. It was well equipped, with a safe, TV, etc, but we were so busy on the tour we didn't spend a great deal of time in it. (One work of warning - the wooden floors are polished like glass , so don't try walking around in socks, especially up the stairs!)

The hotel staff were charming. We had 2 minor maintenance problems while we were there, both of which were attended to within minutes of our reporting them. The food is good and varied, though the restaurant service, especially at breakfast, can be a little erratic. The staff on the front desk are charming and very helpful, and the little gift shop has some exquisite (if rather expensive) gifts.

The hotel is a great place from which to explore the interesting colonial city of Quito on foot. You can walk to the main square in about two minutes, and from there, the old city spreads in every direction. There are also some interesting narrow streets around the hotel itself, but watch out for the traffic!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and had a number of excursions from the city. We went up in the cablecar, but unfortunately the clouds had rolled in and we saw little, so don't go up on a cloudy day. The Theatrum restaurant was also a fabulous place to eat - another of Richard's finds.

If you are thinking of travelling to Ecuador and the Galapgos, I would highly recommend having a chat with the Furlongs. They are a charming couple, and provided us with some of the best travel experiences we have ever had in over 30 years of globetrotting. They are not the cheapest, but they do provide outstanding value for money, and travelling to this fascinating area of the World with them is hugely rewarding.

Couldn't have a better location - short block from the main square in the old town. Can walk to most attractions from here. Rooms quiet, but very varied in layout and temperature. We stayed on several different nights and had a different room each time. At the front, the rooms are on 2 levels with the bathroom upstairs from the main bedroom. At the back, overlooking the patio attached to the bar, the rooms are better - but this section of the hotel is much colder. One room had a functional temperature control and the other didn't. All rooms we saw had windows only onto the enclosed patios (Front one is dining room) - none looked at street - so you couldn't really upen the curtains if you wanted privacy.

Staff was extremely helpful. We were not able to get money at several banks using our ATM card, so the manager came with us to help (bank was just a few doors away) and we succeeded finally. Staff also made reservations at restaurants and got taxis for us.

Truly enjoyed our four day stay at Hotel Patio Andaluz. Opted fora room only package and had breakfast outside (found hotel BF very expensive, outside a fraction of it).

The hotel is located just 200 meters from the President Palace and Plaza Grande, the heart of Old Quito. The hotel is in an 300 year old building and has been beautifully restored. Great and spacious common areas, bars and restaurants. The rooms are large and functional with free Wi Fi and cable TV.

Best was the location: so close to all the sights, churches and museums. Very friendly staff who gave us ideas where to go for dinner or to book a taxi etc.

The nearby Theatrum restaurant was great.

Only two blocks from the Main Square of Old Town. Good efficient Reception at check Also helped my wife who was sick.
Quiet room, I had e mailed prior to ask for this, as some rooms are built around the Courtyard which is also the Restaurant.
Our room had upstairs Bathroom and sitting area. Room was clean and well furnished. Hotel also has free Internet terminal.
Good Buffet Breakfast.
Also Supermarket next to hotel is very useful.

We stayed at the Patio Andaluz in between our trip to the Galapagos and the Amazon jungle lodge. The hotel is situated in a great spot, just of the Place de la Independencia. The first room we had was a duplex, with a spiral staircase going up to the sleeping area and bathroom - but be careful - the polished floor can make it tricky ! The next room was on the balcony overlooking the restaurant. This room was light and airy and bigger than the first, but it was a little noisy from the restaurant. On our third stay, we had a room on the ground floor which was away from the noise, very comfortable, but again, a little dark. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, although not all speak English. The food in the restaurant was also very good, but we can also recommend a restaurant around the corner from the hotel, called Mea Culpa - the food and service were fantastic and it was very reasonably priced.

If you are going to Quito for sightseeing or even in transit to another destination, then stay in the colonial section for at least a day or two. This is a boutique hotel in the heart of historic Quito and walking distance to many sites. Roomy and very comfortable; you cannot go wrong.
