This 'hotel' is really a wonderful respite from the city. The views are truly spectacular. The owner, Francesco, has left no detail to chance and he clearly has overbuilt this resort to his own high standards. I just can't tell you enough, if you have an opportunity, please indulge in this stay, even though its not at indulgent prices. The food, the service, the rooms (unbelievable) are world class. All the appointments are excellent, the bedding, the decor, the furniture, the beautiful shower with a view of the valley.........I could have stayed a month if my travel allowed. This would be a wonderful venue for a family reunion or wedding. Will be back, and this time, it will be for more than one night. Gracias, Francisco!!

Room Tip: We had room 415 with a view of both the crater and the valley. Spent much of the night just gazing...

Only got to spend one night at this amazing hotel, but I will never forget the beauty of resting on the rim of a volcano. The rooms and bathrooms are beautiful, the staff is welcoming, and the food at the restaurant is very good. Be there in the late afternoon when clouds fill the caldera then flow over the hotel. I cannot say enough good about this hotel. Alpaca wander the property to add even more charm.

Room Tip: If you can stay on the second floor, you will have beautiful ceiling domes, but all rooms are great.

After a long day of travel we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. El Crater was the only hotel booked for my 20 days of travel. It was perched high on the rim of a volcanic crater. The panoramic view was so peaceful, unlike the madness of Quito. I hope to stay here again someday! Great food. Awesome furnishings and floor to ceiling windows which gave you the best of both worlds. We did hike the near by trails. They were kind of prohibited but we were advised that it was a "must-do". It was! Great pics of the fog rolling in and other volcanos in the distance.

Summer is the best time to come. Sky is completely clear to see all the stars. Rooms are amazing with two large windows: one to see the crater and one to see the town. On top of that: a Great service!

We really enjoyed our 2 day trip to El Crater and the surrounding area. The room is large, comfortable, and clean. The restaurant is very good, as is the bar. We really enjoyed just sitting in the large sitting area with a glass of wine watching the ever changing weather patterns.

El Crater Hotel is an experience to visit. The rooms are excellent, the restaurant is great and the personal service is outstanding. We arranged for a round trip airport transfer thru the hotel and all went well. The views of the crater and back towards the city are breath taking. This was our second stay at El Crater and both stays have been excellent. I would highly recommend staying at El Crater to experience the sites of the volcano crater and the feeling of staying on the actualy vocano rim. Our dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant were both high quality meals and presented very well. Unfortunately, because of the location of the new Quito airport, the travel time from the airport to the hotel is at least 1 hour & 30 minutes, but it is well worth the trip. I was told that the road system is being improved to reduce the drive time.

Room Tip: Ask for a 2nd floor room. The views are unlike anywhere else.

Our first three days in Ecuador were spent at this beautiful small hotel perched on the rim of a volcano and adjacent to a national park (Puluahua). There are really no words to describe the views from every single part of this property. This is NOT a location to be chosen for sightseeing, since it's a long and expensive cab ride into the city of Quito. Nonetheless, it's minutes from 'Mitad del Mundo,' and it's pretty cool to be able to say you stayed on the equator.
The rooms are contemporary and simple in design, the beds are comfortable, and the private baths are very nice. Each room has huge picture windows on both sides - one side affords spectacular views of the old crater, while the other looks far out over the city and beyond to the mountains. The restaurant - views, service, and food - is outstanding. The staff are personable and the attentive owner lives on the property, which is home to two furry llamas who graze all day long.
There is also a 'tienda' that is a gallery featuring paintings and sculpture by the owner and other local artists.
A spa is currently under construction which looks as though it will be no less beautiful than the rest of the hotel when completed.
Security in this remote location is maintained by way of a gate that is closed each night.
This is a relaxation destination - a wonderful place to rest and unwind - and a hotel like no other we have stayed at.

Room Tip: Remote location - perfect for relaxation - and absolutely beautiful!
