Ten of us just spent 10 nights at this hotel. We are members of a California hiking group & are traveling in Ecuador & Peru for 3 weeks. We were the sole occupants at the Folklore, & on our last day there, several of us discovered that we were robbed of cash from our rooms. The hotel provided lock boxes, but these were also broken into. Between us, over $1000 US was taken. The police were called & a report was made, but the owner continued to insist that he &this wife had nothing to do with it, & the police did nothing. The hotel is locked, so this wasn't committed by a random outsider. The ONLY people in the hotel at the time that we were being secretly stolen from was the owner & his wife. They appear very sweet, but are NOT what they appear. Avoid this hotel.

AUTO THEFT in Folklore, watch this group of hikers!!

A group of seniors American hickers stayed for several day at our hotel at the end of february. They had a great stay and were very happy with everything that they had met in ecuador especially the kindness we tracted them with in our hotel.
On the last evening before they returned to America they organized a meeting in our cafeteria at 17:00, everyone attended apart from Collen Keegan. Our security camera see Collen Kegan going to the main hall in front of Mrs Tanya Al-Saadoon room. The video shows that she glanced to both sides to see if anybody was around.
She glances at her watch an enters she come back out of the room and heads to the cafeteria where the group was.
In the hotel at the time was the abire mentioned group and my family who live in the hotel. At 17:45 Mrs Al.Saadoon tells us that there has been a robbery in her room.
When Mrs Al-Saadoon informed me that she has been robbed. I called the police, and showed them a video recording taker at the time of the robbery. The only personsin that part of the hostel at the time was Mrs Collen Keegan.
At no time when the robbery was taking place was I or any member of my family in or near the room in question.
I strongly refute any suggestion that I or my wife had anything to do with this robbery.
I am taking legal advice on whether is take legal action for these allegation

the folklore is situated on a quiet street about a 15minute walk from the active centre of plaza foch and about a 1 hour walk from the old city. Rooms are a good size with large bath and shower with hot water. The included breakfast is very good. The only negative is the price. Other hostals/hotels in the area are in the 30 35 dollar range, the folklore at 50 dollars is alittle overpriced.

This is a homely gem in a relatively quiet area - La Floretta. Rooms are clean airey and very comfortable. Our double superior was $50 for two people including breakfast and it was a good sizeroom. Bernado is very helpful in providing advice, maps and laptops! and all you could ask for including a reasonably priced airport transfer ($30).
The hotel is an easy 10 minute walk straight into Mariscal Sucre and close to a supermaxi supermarket.
Ample buffet breakfast in the eating area overlooks the garden where the friendly garden rabbit adds even more charm!
A great place to stay.

Room Tip: We went for a superior double room which was at the corner of the building with 2 large windows upst...

We booked in here last minute in high season as all the cheaper places were booked out. We paid $40 a night here for a private room with bathroom.

We moved room on the third day because the hot water went from boiling hot to freezing cold over and over again which sucks when you are sick!! The new room was much brighter and nicer and had a desk and the shower worked :)

Pros.
The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are nice. It is close to a big supermarket and plenty of shops and there is a very affectionate giant rabbit out the front.
Because it is more expensive than similar hostels, there is usually free rooms even in high season.
There is a kitchen you can use and a lovely breakfast is included in the price.

Cons.
The wifi connection was not great and we had to reset the router 5 times a day
The owners have young kids, in the first room we would hear the baby crying - a lot!
Also they would have bunches of young kids playing outside our door sometimes which was very loud. I love kids, but when you are trying to concentrate or snooze, it is very close quarters.

All in all a nice, friendly place if you need a place to lay your head.

Me and my family stayed at the Folklore for three nights total, two at the beginning of our stay in Ecuador, and one before we flew home. And I must say, it exceeded any expectation I had. The staff was amazing and helpful far beyond the call of duty. When we went to Banos for two days they held on to our luggage free of charge. Later, when I forgot my brand new iPhone at the Folklore they kept it for me for two weeks until I got back there. The rooms were nice enough and the location, within walking distance from the Mariscal, suited us perfectly. This is where I will be staying the next time I visit Quito.

My experience at the Folklore was that I felt like family more than as only a guest. The hotel is situated in a quiet neighborhood called La Floresta. The Folklore is run by Bernardo and his wife Yadira. They were always available to answer any questions and were very helpful when it came to tours or places to see in Ecuador. I speak fluent Spanish which made life a little easier for me but Bernardo speaks English. I found the location of the hotel to be excellent because most of the tourist sites were only a few dollars cab ride away. The WiFi and satellite television worked perfectly. I was also lucky enough to travel with Bernardo and his family to a small town which has hot springs and is located about an hour and a half from Quito.

The Folklore is conveniently locate near the Mariscal district is about a 20 minute walk. There you will find many bars, restaurants, shopping and many travel agencies.

Bernardo also has a small hotel (cabanas) located across the street from a beach in Sua, which is an 8 hour bus ride ($9). It is located in a small fishing village and is a great place to relax.

I stayed about 2 months at the Folklore and another month in Sua at the beach. I cant wait to return next year.

Room Tip: I had 2 rooms with a small kitchen. There are also a couple of rooms with fireplaces available.
