A welcome respite at the end of a birding trip in Southern Ecuador, this lovely hotel was very comfortable and located just three blocks away from the historic center of Cuenca. Built in 1802 as a family home Casa del Aguila has several salons, an atrium and a patio for the delicious and varied breakfasts. The public areas are filled with art and artifacts of colonial life in Ecuador. The room was spacious and bathroom quite modern. The staff was very accommodating and helpful in arranging a private tour of historic Cuenca for us. Wifi was excellent in most areas of the building. We enjoyed several restaurants in the neighborhood for dinner. Paid overnight gated parking was available nearby.

I put up my friend and his family of three for 4 nights. Being in the rooms...the suit and a basic, I was truly impressed with the lodging. The old house has been beautifully redone in classic colonial style. The hotel actually meanders through various stair cases, floors, nooks, living rooms where you can get together for a cocktail before heading out for diner. The service, the best. The reservations were handled professionally and efficiently, rooms were ready and waiting. The in house service was always friendly and helpful. Very clean, very hospitable, great rooms, quiet, great decor, 4 blocks from the central square and one block to a really beautiful square with a great little resturant - San Sabas. If you need a place to stay in Cuenca, this will make you happy.

Room Tip: The front suit has a balcony and a huge space. I like the back and top floor rooms, two beds and a little sitting patio in front.

A spectacular place, full of energy and wonderful sounds good in the center of Cuenca, near the Calderon Park, breakfast here is magical and peaceful, I love waking up in their rooms full of color and those beds as soft as long as we Cuenca staying here but we have not a good trip. We are a gay couple and there was no problem at the hotel, all very friendly and quiet.

Room Tip: The rooms in the back of the hotel near the backyard, they are the quietest.

A few blocks west from the parque Calderon, this hotel is a gem in Cuenca.
The rooms are built around a central courtyard, tastefully furnished back to the colonial house it once was.
The beds are the most comfortable we have slept in after 10months of travelling. super soft sheets give the impression of sleeping in clouds!
Very good breakfast provided and the service was excellent.
The hotel was actually our favourite part of Cuenca after 4 days!

What an amazing experience we had this past weekend at this great little boutique hotel (attending a golf tournament). I give it an all 5 rating due to its perfect ambiance, great front - desk service, and perfect location.

Service: they went the extra mile to make us feel at home, from early...I mean 5:30 am...breakfast, to extra pillows, complimentary earplugs, you need a hair dryer? just ask...you need for someone to fetch you kid's dirty golf pants (because you forgot to bring enough and last minute, while away from the hotel, you remembered that you needed to wash a dirty pair) and have them clean within two hours...just ask. I MEAN, WE WERE AT HOME! I just can´t say how friendly and attentive these people were.

Ambiance: Its decor is very colonial, it has a main stay-room that seems just unbelievable. The breakfast area and computer room are just another addition to this nicely renewed colonial home.

Location: Walking distance to great museums, colonial buildings, wonderful restaurants, parks.

When I first read other reviews I was bough, however there was one that had me double think my choice. It mentioned the noise and the cracks in the doors, so I would like to give my feedback on this matter.

Noise: If the hotel was to do anything to change its structure and reduce the noise it would greatly affect the ambiance of the hotel. For those rooms close to the front desk, such was my case. A great problem solver?? The front desk can provide you with complimentary ear plugs if you think you'll need them. There were four of us, three were able to sleep without problems, I needed the earplugs. Problem solved!!

Cracks in the door: Once again this is just part of the ambiance of the hotel. If you come to a boutique hotel thinking it will be the everyday Marriott than don´t go boutique. This is a great hotel and the service is just superb.

What would make it better? offering a bar service during the evenings and nights.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the third flat or near the outer patio.
