“One of the best experiences I have ever had in a hotel”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

The staff at this charming hotel is exceptional. They cannot do enough to please their guests and make them feel welcome and comfortable as you would in your own home. The room I stayed in was beautiful and so clean. The sheets were soft and the pillows with memory foam. The shower was strong and always hot. The breakfast was always delicious and served in a very timely manner. There was always coffee and tea all day long. I had a small problem loosing an immigration paper given to me on the plane from USA. When the owner found out about my dilemma he personally drove me to the immigration office in Cuenca and my problem was resolved. Shalom Rafael. Thank you for your kindness and always smiling face. I am looking forward to my next visit and the only place I would stay is Casa San Rafael.

A few blocks from the center of historical center of Cuenca. Very nice deco and wonderful staff. Good wifi signal and good breakfast served. Rooms are very clean and good maid service. Staff assisted us in arranging private transportation to Guayaquil.

We went in Cuenca for a weekend in family, with two little kids. The hotel is located in the heart of the old town, 3 mn walking from the Calderon place. It's a very nice hotel, and the owners are very nice and welcoming. They helped us a lot to plan our trip and they gave us all the facilities with the kids. The rooms are cosy and clean and the breakfast is delicious. There is Wi-fi in all the rooms and it's working great. I was very pleased of our stay and I will suggest the place to all my friends who want to go to Cuenca.

This hotel is a wonderful place to stay! Right from the moment we walked in the door and was greeted by the young lady at the front desk and the owner, Rafael. Our one night stay has turned into three. We weren't going to visit Cuenca, but had some time to kill so decided to come and see what was here (we had been told by numerous people to come, but thought it would be just another big city). This hotel is beautifully appointed, the rooms are small but cozy, the beds are comfortable, the shower is hot, the breakfast is wonderful and ALL the staff are friendly and helpful. The old part of the city is safe to walk around and very beautiful with cobblestone streets, old churches, museums and old architecture. I am glad that we didn't miss it! The only things to be aware of is that you park in a public lot just up the road where you must leave your keys and the floors of the hotel are VERY creaking (which adds to the character of the place, but gives you a fairly early wakeup as other travelers get their day started). Overnight we heard no noise and had great sleeps...we were in room 207... an inside room. Highly recommend staying here!

Room Tip: If you want a great sleep then ask for an inside room...we were in room 207 and it was excellent!!

This was our first trip to Cuenca and Casa San Rafael was recommended to us by friends. The hotel arranged a taxi to collect us from the airport and that was the start of a wonderful warm welcome to this beautiful city. The warmth of the welcome at the hotel from ALL staff was second to none. They could not do enough for us. (They all speak English too if needed!) the hotel was a sensitively restored colonial building in a great central location. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Breakfast was lovely, freshly made juices and eggs of your choice. No other meals are available but...

This is our second visit to Cuenca and we cannot say enough about the hospitality and fine service at Casa San Rafael. The atmosphere in the hotel is inviting and the decor elegant. The rooms are comfortable and nicely appointed and a delicious breakfast is included. Its in the perfect location to explore colonial Cuenca. But the real treasure is the family who owns the hotel - they have become our first and favorite Ecuadorian friends.

The San Rafael is a small boutique family run hotel in the heart of the Historic district in Cuenca. It's an impeccably maintained and run hotel. The family that owns it and the staff are wonderful!!! My husband and I stayed in the San Rafael for three weeks and were treated like and felt like family. The three women who cook and clean took such good care of us and were so warm and friendly, as were the owners and those who worked at the desk. The hotel is fairly new and beautifully decorated with painted walls and large plants that make you feel like you're in an outdoor garden. The San Rafael was only three blocks from the main plaza, the heart of Old Town and an easy walk to everywhere you'd want to go. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

Room Tip: There are some rooms with no windows. If this is a problem for you, make sure at booking that your...
