“Tender loving care in Cuenca”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

Rarely do you get service and quality at any price like you find at Casa De Las Rosas in Cuenca. The eight room hotel in a restored Colonial Home in a location within 5-10 minutes of anywhere in the centro historico (old Cuenca) is top notch. Every room has a private bathroom with updated fixtures (the two rooms we occupied both had double vanities). There is a drawing room just off the entrance with books and fresh coffee, tea, pastries and Ecuadorian chocolate. Then another central courtyard where breakfast is served daily from 7:30-10:30. Breakfast is interesting in that the couple that manages the hotel serves different exotic fruit, homemade juices and pastries every morning so that over our six day stay we never had the same thing twice. The english speaking daughter of the owner was very kind and helpful arranging for just about every activity we enjoyed during the stay. Tours, meals, advice on attractions, even a private 1.5 hour tour by taxi around the outlying areas of Cuenca for $8 an hour. Only one minor drawback and this is being addressed. The blue room and orange room (with Juliette balconies over the street) are a bit noisy. New, double insulated windows have already been purchased but they are having a hard time finding a qualified craftsman to install them (any recommendations)? All other rooms are very quiet. Especially the Verde suite which on the second floor overlooks the inter-garden. The only other drawback is if you are not able to walk a few blocks, but then, the hotel staff is on call 24 hours a day and can always call you a taxi in a minute or two. Most guests are from abroad as the locals have yet to hear about this rare gem. I would never stay anywhere else when coming to Cuenca!

Room Tip: If traveling in the next few weeks, choose another room besides orange or blue. After that the new w...

We went for a weekend during my parents visit to Ecuador. We had a slight problem when checking-in since something was wrong with our reservation. But the staff was pretty efficient and it was resolved really fast.
The outsides and surroundings of this hotel may not be so nice, but the interior is charming, peaceful and friendly.
Just a 15 min walk to the central plaza of Cuenca.
Breakfast is also really good. Always fresh fruit, tasty sorts of breads, jams..
Bedrooms are really clean and organized. Decoration is also modern. The hotel is still very new.

We stayed here 4 nights. Unfortunately, my husband was sick with food poisoning when we arrived. By the next morning he was ready to see a doctor and I was very worried. The couple that are managers don't speak English, but they can do Google Translate which was a big help. The daughter of the elderly owner does speak pretty good English and she was involved right away. They quickly arranged an appointment with a doctor who spoke English and even paid our taxi fare. This outstanding service more that made up for the down side of this charming place. Our room was chilly so we loved the hot water bottle in the evening. Laundry wasn't free but folded nicely and better than dragging it to the Gringo Laundry and doing it ourselves. Everything seemed well maintained and very clean. Excellent breakfast. Highly recommended!!!!!

We loved our stay at Casa de Las Rosas. This has been the Tapia family home since 1952, and only recently renovated and turned into a small, 6-room inn. It is very cozy and charming, just the right size with really nice (and large!) guest rooms. Bathroom was great, very hot water. A nice touch, in keeping with the name, are all the roses everywhere including rose petals on our bed and bathroom when we arrived. The staff is EXCELLENT. The location is good, too - slightly off the main tourist area, but still only blocks to get to anything, all within walking distance. I would absolutely stay here again when I hopefully return to Cuenca.

Room Tip: There are many rooms to choose from, several of which are great for families, with several beds and...

The hotel is in a colonial era house which has been fitted out as a hotel to the highest standards. Rooms are large and airy with spacious en-suite bathrooms. Beds are huge and comfortable, quality wooden floors and furniture. Breakfast is amazingly varied and there are free hot drinks and snacks available during the day. Service is very good and friendly too. The only drawback is the location, because whilst it is within a comfortable walking distance of the historical centre the street itself is supposedly dangerous. We took the precaution of returning in a taxi after dark.

we spent five nights in total and were very happy with our choice. service was outstanding. very friendly and always helpful with anything we came up with. also open to suggestions of customers.

house and rooms are nicely decorated, also thanks to the public area a place to feel comfortable.

breakfast was really good, one of the best in the entire three months in south america. additionally fresh homemade tart and free selection of tea throughout the day.

bathroom fairly spacious and with two basins and decent shower. beds comfortable. two bottles of fresh water every day. internet fairly fast. uploads of pictures (up to three gigabytes) never posed a problem, neither in daytime nor at night.

downsides: a good five minutes walk to the center and another five minutes to the calle larga (main road for going out). also the rooms to the street are quite noisy. they will install new windows soon though.

should i ever come back to cuenca i will stay in this place again.

Room Tip: if you are a light sleeper get one of the rooms away from the street or check if they have already i...

I loved my stay here! I especially loved the hot water bottle delivered to my room every night! Luca and Lucia were very helpful, as were all of the staff. It's a good location, and a lovely place! The breakfast was great, too!
