We stayed at Hotel Victoria over the Chrismas period and found it to be a most friendly and comfortable hotel. We ate in the restaurant on Christmas Eve and the food was excellent, as were the breakfasts. Rooms were comfortable and we had a panoramic view over the garden, river and town from the balcony in our suite. The hotel is ideally placed on the edge of the old town. We would recommend Hotel Victoria and would stay there again if visiting Cuenca.

Room Tip: We had a suite at the back of the hotel overlooking the garden and river

We stayed at Hotel Victoria for two weeks in December 2012 while on a long vacation in Ecuador. All the staff at the hotel, from the front desk personnel to the restaurant staff to the housekeeping staff, were great. They took care of us in every possible way. Our suite with a huge terract was just perfect. Breakfast at the hotel's restaurant every morning was a treat. On Christmas Day they made us a pancake breakfast. We also had lunch at the restaurant a few times, as well as Christmas Eve dinner - food was fabulous and waitstaff were wonderful. The hotel arranged transfer from and to the airport for us and it was so nice to have someone waiting for you upon arrival and then ready to take you back for departure. We will definitely stay at the Hotel Victoria the next time we travel to Cuenca, and cannot say enough good things about the hotel.

We stayed at Hotel Victoria in Cuenca for four nights in December 2012. We were travelling with our two young children and our lovely, spacious room on the ground floor which opened out to a delightful garden was perfect. Our 4 and 5 year old spent a few very happy hours out there at the end of the day exploring and playing with two very friendly cats! The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and couldn't have been more welcoming. We had a list of things to organise when we first arrived and nothing was too much trouble, from recommending somewhere that the whole family could have their hair cut, to laundry and tour organisation. We enjoyed two wonderful day trips, one to the Sunday markets at Gualaceo and Chordeleg and another to Ingapirca, both organised through the hotel with excellent guides at very reasonable prices. We also went to an incredible orchard farm just out of Gualaceo that I would definitely recommend also. The hotel is in a great location, overlooking the river and very close to everything including the main sites and lots of restaurants, cafes and bars. I could not recommend this hotel more highly.

Had the sea bass it was wonderful you would think they were on the sea front in salinas the service again was second to none , what a very nice place to spend an hour or two .

Room Tip: All the rooms are very nice , the south side being closer to the road .

Spent a long weekend and what a view from my room. The terrace was what made this trip so special. We had a romatic dinner on the terrace with the perfect night.Attention was first class. We could walk every where we wanted to go.No need for a taxi. El Jardin 's food was perfect sat by a window and saw about 5 humming birds and the sound of the river.

I stayed here in a friends trip for a weekend. Nice rooms, good meal (a bit expensive for the hotel rank). Very clean warm rooms, although I didn't like the bathroom facilities (need a renovation). Fair attention. The parking a little bit confusing to find, but very secure. Two suits with fabulous view, but overpriced.

Stayed here 3 nights in early September; Suite 503 I think it was - one of 2 suites upstairs; each has a sitting room, a bedroom, and a terrace, and faces the river, away from the street. The terrace was super - 5 stars - great view with table and chairs. THe bedroom was reasonable size - king size bed, with some room to maneouver around; mattress however was a bit tired and too soft. THere is no room safe there, and if you wanted to watch TV - well it is a bit small (but that really didn't bother us - we were not watching). Nice bathroom with plenty of large towels and hot water (no bathrobes for those who want to know). Closets and drawers are in the sitting room, and are adequate but not overly large. Unfortunately the sitting room is not very comfortably furnished, and have poor lighting for things like reading.
Also, no door in between the two rooms. So if yo uare looking for a sitting room where a noghtowl can lounge and read while a partner sleeps - not such a great solution.

I have noted in several Ecuador hotel reviews people complaining about lack of central heat - they need to be aware that this is commonplace -- unless you want to stay in the more modern and cookie-cutter hotels.

ON the other hand, great wifi reception (there was also a computer in the common areas for those without wifi gizmos). Our room rate did include a gracious and complete breakhastin the lovely restaurant below. Also, the staff was absolutely lovely and very helpful. The common areas are well appointed, and comfortable. It is also in a good location - walkable to many parts of town.

By the way, there is no elevator so if you are stair-adverse, this is not the best place for you.

In summary, although I really would have liked to give this place more stars, I felt that by international standards it was average -- except for its overchall charm of presentation, and its lovely staff. But for all that, yes, I would stay there again.

Room Tip: Room away from street side is important for sleep quality.
