The hotel is located in a calm area of Arequipa and it contains all amenities you normally need for your city trip. The staff is very friendly. The breakfast is good but could vary a little bit. The cost free WiFi is stable but not the fastest. The hotel is very nice decorated (nicer then the pictures in the web). To keep it in a nutshell: very good hotel for a cheap price!

The rooms are incredible and so is the hotel. The service was amazing. The breakfast was very tasty, on our last morning they knew we were leaving early and they prepared us a table beforehand! It is about an 15 minute walk to everything, but this makes you see a bit more than just the center!

This hotel has helpful staff, spotless, tastefully decorated rooms and a great atmosphere. It is located about 15 minutes by foot from the historical center but you can easily walk to all the main sites.

This is a B&B style boutique "hotel" with maybe a dozen rooms. A previous review called the area "semi-sketchy", I completely disagree. The location (a 6 soles/7 minute cab ride from historic center) is in a rather upscale area that is relatively quiet. I walked several evenings around the area and never had an issue. Taxi's do have a bit of a problem finding it but just tell them it is within walking distance from Plaza Yanahuara and they don't have a problem. The rooms were very clean and stylish and the included breakfast was the best I have had in my 2 trips and 8 different hotels stays in Peru, however hours are limited, only 7:30 - 9:30. Pleasant and comfortable high fashion common areas are a plus. They were very accommodating about us leaving our bags after checkout for the day but they aren't locked in a secure area. They also offered us a bathroom and shower to use prior to our 9:00 pm flight to Lima! A great experience. Thank you Azul Colonial.

Room Tip: The rooms 107? outside the main courtyard on backside of hotel will be a bit more quiet as you won...

If you are thinking about spend you time to know Arequipa, this is a nice place to stay. With a great decoration, this hostel can offer a great structure like beautiful and confortable bedrooms, great breakfest and great service.. All of that for a really good price.. I recommend

We made arrangements to stay at Azul Colonial Inn in April 2014 prior to our arrival to Arequipa. We left the airport around late morning and the cab driver took us through the back roads to this Inn, and it was in a semi-sketchy area....def not in a central location, but that was expected. We used the door knocker and were met by a receptionist (young man) who was very polite and helpful. He did not speak English, but my Spanish got us through to check-in. Aside from the language barrier, I could tell that the young man was trying to help in any way he could but he just did not have much information regarding our reservation. Which was fine, we rolled with the punches.

What blew me away, and the reason for my negative review is that we arrived earlier then check-in (about 2 hours)....which is fine. We were happy to take off and come back at the appropriate time....and although we did not see a soul in sight, we figured if they could get us in a room earlier they would've offered. The receptionist then got on the phone with what I assume was the owner and explained our situation, and he said that we could not check in earlier, however, if we paid a fee that we could. Wait....so there are no rooms available to check-in early to, but if I paid a fee there magically could be a room that we CAN check in to? That sounds bogus. So at that point, I said you know what? I would love to just get out of here and get another hostel or hotel.....When I asked for the photocopies of our immigration forms and passports back, the receptionist would not give it back to me.....Okay, that doesn't makes sense. So I had to throw on my Tony Montana face and go around the front desk to forcefully find my paperwork and retrieve all of our documentation with our personal information on it.....I had no idea why they would want to keep our personal info as we were not successfully checked in to this place....and the receptionist knew we were leaving.

Overall -- I'm sure the rooms were nice, the main area looked pretty cool....but I'm not a fan of being taken advantage of or scammed, especially by a place where I would be sleeping at night with all of my stuff....The trust was lost right there and I am glad we left. We ended up staying at Tierra Viva which was AWESOME, and in a very central location! They took us in last minute and charged us not much more than Azul Colonial Inn.

I do not know what happened at this place, and I am sure these people are fine people, but I was definitely confused as to what they were trying to pull....

If you decide to stay here, good luck....I wish you a better experience than we had...

We booked this hotel because of its high rating on TripAdvisor. We stayed there on June 13th, the night before we left for a 2-day Colca Canyon trek, and then again when we returned, on June 15th.

We arrived from Nazca on an overnight bus, and got to the hotel around 9am. We knew it was very unlikely that our room would be ready, but that we would be able to leave our luggage there during the day while we explored Arequipa. When we arrived, the person at the desk did not speak much English (and our Spanish is rudimentary). Most of the time, that's just fine, and we don't at all expect everyone to speak English. Perhaps it was this language barrier, but there was some scrambling and some phone calls made, and it seemed pretty obvious that they at first didn't have our reservation, but after some phone calls and being shown the confirmation, we got a room.

When we communicated that we would need to leave at 3am the next morning for Colca Canyon (so we should pay for the night), we were told that we must pay cash, despite the many credit card signs all over the place at the hotel. So, we paid cash for the night, left our luggage (with no qualms about that, by the way), and headed out to explore.

We returned around 9pm, got our key, and moved our bags up to our room. It was a Friday night, and we had the room immediately above the courtyard and the entryway. This was a problem, because the only way to enter the hotel is to use the heavy, LOUD, metal knocker on the door and wait for the staff to open the door (it's wood, you cannot see through it). This happened the entire time we were trying to sleep, and there was even someone coming in at 3am when we left.

They did graciously allow us to leave our luggage with them for safe keeping while on the trek, which we again did without any qualms.

When we returned on Sunday evening, we got the same room. It was much quieter this time, and much easier to sleep. However, when we returned from dinner around 9:30, we had no hot water. We waited a little while, in case the supply was just depleted, but with no luck. We tried to notify the front desk, but there was no one there, and repeated rings of the desk bell in addition to knocking on the doors around the courtyard produced no one. We finally gave up around 11pm, left a note on the desk and went to bed. In the morning, there was still no hot water, and the staff never acknowledged the problem (we saw the note still on the desk.).

Lastly, when we told them on Sunday night that we would need to leave around 7:15am to catch our bus, we were told that that was before breakfast, but we would be able to have some coffee. That seemed fair - their breakfast hours start at 7:30. When we got up in the morning, we found two other travelers in the same situation, eating breakfast.

I hope we just got some terrible luck, but we would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Avoid room 104.
