Owner description: Considered a masterpiece of colonial architecture, this monastery is a large complex of rooms, picturesque plazas, ornate fountains and a maze of narrow, cobblestone streets.

Interesting to some, especially those fascinated with religion, but really, the price reflects the lack of sights in the town, although it's a nice town, not so much to visit.

There is a great deal to see here. Unfortunately no English-speaking guide was available for our visit so we had to guide ourselves using the information on signs and in the Lonely Planet book, which was sufficient.

There are far too many rooms to look at individually so we skipped some. There are also great views over the walls to the surrounding volcanoes.

There is a cafe half way around although we didn't visit it.

We had a great time, what an amazing part of this cities history!
It is a vast area with so many interesting stories that change over the past centuries...
We took a guided tour, it is well worth it to hear the stories and have the opportunity to ask questions! Our guide lacked a few basic public speaking skills, she often did not wait for all four f us to be there before she started the story, and she often spoke facing the room she was discussing rather than facing us...
We had two scrumptious deserts at the café....strongly recommended!!
