We traveled to Cusco as a couple to visit the city and walk the Inka Trail to Macchu Picchu in December 2011.
We stayed a this hostel after the trail (because we didn't like our first hostel: Casa Grande). Even though we were paying 5$ less per night than the previous hostel, we were amazed by how much better this hostel was! First of all it looks like a hotel and not a hostel, and everything seemed newly renovated. The staff was very nice and they kept our luggage while we did the Inka trail. The room was very big, sunny, comfortable and clean. The water in the shower was normal, so you didn't have to freeze every time you took one. The breakfast was excellent. It had a lot of variety and also a cook to make you some eggs or other things you might like.
A huge plus of this hotel is that it had heating. It gets really really cold at night in Cuzco and you will find yourself using that heating!
It also had a really nice lounge area next to the entrance with computers and free internet. Also, each floor had a nice lounge area with comfortable couches.
It's located a bit further away from the plaza de Armas (5-7 min walking) but it was close to avenida del Sol and Qorikancha. I think if you want to stay right "in" plaza de armas block, you will have to pay double than here to get a similar value (and not sure you will).
We strongly recommend this hotel and if we ever go back to Cuzco we most likely will stay here again.
