Casa Cartagena is an amazing hotel. It is a gem located in an amazing city. This hotel is the best choice after a long day in Machu Picchu. The staff is remarkable and very eager to assist.

Overall, casa cartagena completed my visit to Cusco.

We spent 3 nights at Casa Cartagena in April 2010. The grounds were immaculate. The accommodations were outstanding. And above all the staff was wonderful. Each staff person at all levels was very warm, kind, attentive to our every request, knowledgable and helpful. We also had several meals onsite, some in the courtyard, that were all excellent.

beautiful hotel, great location, but the key is the service. they could not do enough for us, and offered so much that we ended up turning down much of it (free massage because their workers made noise one day, pre-dinner drinks and snacks, etc.).

while pricey for cusco, it was well worth it. if you go and want to see the sacred valley, make sure you ask them to line up a taxi and guide. they were great, we saw a lot more than the people who took the bus tours, and they took us to each site at a time when it was uncrowded.

also, unbelievable breakfast was included. they ask you the night before what you want, and no matter what it is or what time you want it, they will make it or get it.

My friends and I stayed at this gem to ring in 2011 and we simply loved it. The Spanish style setting with a lovely courtyard made for a perfect place to come home to. As you strollf through the colonial façade and opened the doors to your room, you suddenly take a giant step in to the 21 century. The over-sized rooms with the high ceilings were furnished with all the amenities of a modern hotel. Avant Garde furnishings, flat panel tv, mp3 player and a bathroom that makes your jaw drop. The location is superb to explore all the sights and shopping that Cusco has to offer. The icing on the cake was the helpful and pleasant staff. They truly made the experience at Casa Cartagena an unforgettable one.

We consider ourselves world travelers. My wife and I have been to almost 50 countries and have taken our kids to 25 of them. The second we entered the hotel we fell in love with the place. The staff was super friendly and made us feel right at home. The suite was out of this world. The avant garde furnishings, lamps and decor in a 200 plus year old building were truly fantastic. The bar tender Eddy made the best Pisco Sours to start of the evening. The breakfast was excellent with many local fruits we had never seen or eaten.
Our kids enjoyed the jacuzzi in the suite and we ordered room service every night. Manigred the waiter was exceptional and made sure the kitchen made us good vegetarian food!
We also tried out the spa and had very nice massages. The location near the plaza was great for shopping.
New Year's even was special - we are able to walk over to the Plaza D' Armas and see thousands of Peruvians celebrate and let of fireworks. And at midnight we participated in the traditional "run" around the plaza.

We did not want to leave and want to go back soon! We highly recommend that you stay at this magnificent governor's home!

Pros-
Beautiful Courtyard
Complimentary breakfast
Clean stylish rooms
Big beds
Location

Cons-
Aloof front desk
They want $50 for oxygen
New addition is not noise proof from other guests/cleaning staff
Sometimes water is cold in the morning

Overall, I like this hotel. But it does have it's stumbles. Mainly, the front desk, which really couldn't be bothered. When you ask them anything they look at you like a deer in headlights. I have no idea what duties they do all day but being genuinely happy and outgoing isn't one one of them. The wait staff however are down to earth, friendly and engaging. The SPA is ok, but I've seen better. The bar area and restaurant are nice but small. It is what it is, a small beautiful boutique hotel with pluses and minuses. However, next time in Cuzco, I think I'll stay somewhere a little more polished.
