“Comfy and Clean”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

My daughter, son and I stayed here for 2 nights in April, 2014. Our room was clean, though spartan. It was a little cold---but we slept warm under the comforters. Breakfast was very nice. I would definitely stay here again. The location was handy for walking around the old part of Cuzco.

We stayed here for two nights and it was really quite nice. Everything was very clean and cozy albeit simple. The staff were helpful and the place is really well located.

Breakfast is not flash but quite ok. Heating costs extra but just 5 or 10 dollars. We did not need it though.

We booked for 4 nights at this hostel after reading good reviews on Trip Adviser. We had been in contact with the hostel via email to confirm our booking. When we arrived by taxi from airport we were told by man at reception that they did not have a room for us . There had been a mix up and it appeared that they had double booked us. We were offered a single room outside with a single bed which was being used as a store room ... Which was only available for 2 nights. We were asked to wait as the manager was coming to hostel to speak to us. Two hours later...and a lot of hanging around ....the manager turned up and said she was trying to find us somewhere else to stay.... Our one other option was a poor hostel nearby that did not have availability over New Year . We ended up arranging our own accommodation in a hotel .

From what we saw the hostel looked nice but the incredibly poor service made this a bad experience. The staff do not speak good English and it got a bit ugly when we tried to get our deposit back. They also made us pay for taxi to our hotel which we felt they could have paid. We did not receive an apology for their error.

If you are going go to book at this hostel we suggest you triple check your booking with the hostel directly !

Room Tip: This hostel is at the top of a very steep road....try and stay near centre if you can !

We stayed here for two nights on our year long vagabonding tour. This is a great budget place. Clean spacious rooms and comfy beds. Hot water showers with good pressure. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Wifi signal is strong and worked well in our room. Location is great, just a few blocks from the main plaza and many excellent restaurants, although you do have to walk uphill on the way back. ;) Most places in Cusco do not have central heating, and this is no exception. As other people mention, it can get cold at night but there were enough blankets to keep us warm. Breakfast was simple and typical as we've found across Peru (I can't say the breakfasts in Peru are anything to write home about but that seems to be common everywhere we've stayed thus far).

Room Tip: As for a room on the second floor with a view of Cusco.

Stayed here with part of an Intrepid tour so not sure on pricing but in short,
Pros:
1. Good location - only a few blocks from main square
2. Safe - locked gate, reception let you in & out
3. Clean & quaint
4. Warm bedding
5. Helpful staff - although some of my laundry pieces went missing (although it was very cheap to have them washed)

Cons
1. Cold rooms - all floorboards, you can get a heater from reception but the bathroom is icy cold!
2. Wifi only in certain rooms and reception area - it was non-existent in the room I was in

Overall, I'd stay there again...maybe in summer!

I stayed at Buena Vista for four nights as part of an Intrepid tour. The rooms were spacious, beds very comfortable, the showers hot and the breakfast yummy. The hostal has a locked gate and the reception staff are always around so you feel very safe. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful, they helped us out with many things. Plus it is only a 3 minute walk from the main square.

The only downside is that the rooms are very cold, However when we talked to the reception staff about this, they provided us with a heater which warmed the room up in no time.

If you are looking to stay somewhere close to the centre of town which is affordable and clean, then I would definitely recommend Buena Vista.

I spent a day and night here on my way back from Machu Picchu. I travelled alone and I felt safe there as access is limited by a locked gate that is watched by the person on duty. The property was centrally located, a cheap ride from teh airport. Breakfast was simple but nice (eggs, fruit, bread, coffee, tea). The manager Dalma was great, she was polite, helpful and made sure I was taken care of, even moving me to an interior room since it would be warmer. The showers had very hot water which was very welcome since cusco was cold when I stayed there. Even though I only stayed a day I would recommend this property to everyone.
