We booked this hostal with the agency Chaska Tours. We got picked up at the airport, and to the door of the hostal. The hostal is located in San Blas. A really nice part of Cusco city. We felt really safe here. Just 3-4min walk to Placa de Armas.

At the hostal they where expecting us. They carried our luggage and showed us our rooms. They served us Coca tee in the cosy patio.

The rooms where great - for us. We had a room with one double bed at 1 floor, and we had stairs that lead up to "half 2.floor"/"small addic". Spacious enough for 2 single beds, as we traveled with our 2young children! GREAT for us :)
The rooms have private bathrooms, cleaned every day. TV with many optional channels.
I think some would have problems with the fact that they didnt have chairs in the room and a proper dresser. No problem for us, as we where out exploring the city and surroundings all day long. And we kept the clothes in our suitcase, and in the selfs that where in the room.
We could aslo gather our dirty clothes and leave it at the desk in the morning, and they would be dry and neatly folded when we came back in the evening. This for a small fee.
There where also EXELLENT wireless connection! That was very useful for us as we where blogging our trip.

The best of it all where the dedicated hostal employers. They never said No to anything. If we wanted heaters they brought heaters, extra pillows, extra towels. They can also be very helpful if one want to make a trip in the sorroundings and so on. At breakfast we requested oat porrige, they made it. If we wanted boiled, fried, scrambled egg, they made it.

The manager Luis is a great manager. Very helpful and always smiling. The other boys working on the "floor", where unusually helpful and dedicated. Really GOOD people!

We stayed at this hostal for 2 and 1/2 week. And this is a place we would definitely saty again!

i stayed here 3 nights total. i really liked staying here out of all the places i stayed in peru. the staff are really nice and very helpful. they always have coca leaves and hot water out for guests to have any time. there's breakfast in the morning (not sure if this normally included or contracted with my tour).

the room was really clean all times i checked in (before and after machu picchu). the bedding kept me warm when the evenings probably dropped to 40 degree F. the bathroom is super squeaky clean! i loved that. i stayed solo so i had what seemed like queen sized bed. the room was really large for me. it was very comfortable, not feeling like i'm in a square box that'll just fit me, the bed and my suit case (which was the case with other hostels).

The slight downfall is that the walls are so thin. I think the walls are made out of pure wood. there's really no sound insulation so you can kind hear people outside or above you or whatever. i suppose if i had to choose between very nice staff and super clean but slightly noisy because of the walls versus a dirty and mean staffed hostel but quiet, i'd still go with the super clean and very nice staff feeling better about everything else. you can always use earplugs.

Being new, the hotel is clean and still has the smell of fresh wood. I particularly enjoyed the log cabin like feel of the loft room for families. The location is great, with just a 5 to 10 minute walk to the square...... and if a short walk up hill is not in your plans, the taxi is only 3 soles for anywhere around town. There are a few laptops available for guests to use on the property, so I constantly stayed in contact with family back home. The manager Luis, is a pleasure to speak to, is very accommodating, and is a good resource for directions and suggestions around town. Luis went out of his way to help us find alternatives to the difficult time during the recent strike. Unfortunately, the rest of the staff, while very friendly, is not as knowledgeable and experienced as Luis.
While the hotel doesn't have a spectacular view outside of any window, it has a terrace that you can see all of Cuzco. Luis can also point out points of interest around town from the terrace and guide you just about anywhere from the hotel.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Apu and would recommend to anyone looking for a quaint mid-range hostal. I just hope Luis doesn't decide to go anywhere, anytime soon!

Great service and extremely helpful staff, breakfast is included and if you're late and the fruit is gone, feel free to order fried eggs. Clean, spacious rooms, free internet. You can sleep a whole family in their larger rooms. Request a heater if you need one (You will during april-october). It's a 5-10 minute walk to Plaza de Armas, take a taxi back for 3 Soles, because it's uphill. When you're leaving, tell reception, we were sent in a free prepaid taxi to the busstation for Cruz del Sur, safely and secure and paid by the hotel. Nearby laundry service and lot's of small shops and churches - cozy.

Our family of 5 (parents and three kids in their 20s) had originally booked another hotel (via the internet, of course) and it was a disaster. We reached out to our tour operator owner (Gilmar Pinelo at Peru Inka Trek Adventures) after our second night at our original hotel and he arranged for our stay here. Gilmar booked us a double and a triple room and even negotiated a discounted rate. The rooms were exceptionally clean and spacious, the breakfast was fantastic each day (we stayed for 5 nights), and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Luis Sanchez, the hotel manager, acted as our own personal concierge, making sure every detail was attended to. (Incidentally, we noticed that Luis did this for all of his guests, which speaks volumes about him and the hotel.) Our only regret is that we wished we had known about Apu Huascaran BEFORE we went to Cusco!

This new hotel is an excellent mid-range option: spotlessly clean, very quiet by the standards of the town and friendly. Located in the lively San Blas quarter, the Apu Huascaran is close to some of Cusco`s prettiest squares and best restaurants but not so close that you`ll be kept awake by brass bands, fireworks or honking buses. The rooms are bright and airy; the beds are comfortable and warm (a real plus on cold nights); and the showers in the private bathrooms are wonderfully hot and strong. Each room has satellite TV. The complimenhary breakfast - cereal, rolls, blackcurrant jam, fruit, coffee and cocoa tea (to assist with climatising to the altitude) - isn`t fancy but it will set up your day nicely, nevertheless. Room rates as of June 2010 ranged from 150 Soles ($US52) for a single to 187 Soles ($US65) for a double and 230 Soles ($US80) for a triple. The rates are negotiable at quiet times. As well as being a fine, small hotel, the Apu Huascaran offers easy proximity to travel agencies, internet cafes and several excellent laundromats. If you are after a relaxed, affordable venue just close enough to the action in perhaps Cusco`s best quarter, then I`d highly recommend a stay at the Apu H.
