Cusco Native tours did a fantastic job of showing us the Sacred Valley. The highlight of the trip was a 2 day, 1 night trek from Chinchero to Lamay. It was a most amazing walk over the mountains with everything excellently arranged. On top of the beautiful sites was the excellent chef and crew. These were the best meals I had the entire time in Peru. We also went to a lot of ruins off the beaten track, this I especially liked because of the few other tourist that were around. I will be back to Peru and will definitely use Cusco Native.

My friend and I just had a wonderful trip to the Sacred Valley, all organized and supported by the excellent guide, Renato Fuentes, owner of Cusco Native. When you are my age (79), any help in visiting the greatest sites of the world is very much appreciated! I had complete confidence that Renato would see that I was safe and restrained to do only what was reasonable to do (for an oldster like me).

He arranged for a 2 day one night trek over the mountains, the Huchuy Qosqo Trek, from Chincherro to Lamay. The scenery was outstanding, especially in the canyon that led down to the Huchuy Qosqo site. There we camped for the night with the supplied tents, sleeping bags, etc. and a great meal. Further down the mountain from there, arranged transportation carried us to Urubamba where we later caught the train to Machu Picchu.

Our 10 day trip included other sites (some of which were a repeat for me but absolutely worth it) in Sacred Valley and Cusco. The other sites such as Moray, Ollantaytambo, and the many sites in Cusco are already well described here, so I will not repeat. Except to say, again, that everything was handled very professionally and we had no significant screw-ups. Food and lodging were also much to our liking which I will try to cover later in another review.

Renato's staff is just as responsible and praiseworthy as Renato, especially our Huchuy Qosqo Trek guide, Chris. Also special thanks need to go to Wilbur, the car driver, who never failed to be there when we needed him. Finally, we were rewarded the wonderful opportunity to meet several of Renato's family. All I can say is, he is just a chip off the family block!

We booked two tours with Cusco Native. Please read both as we had VERY different experiences.

1. Sacred Valley tour- 1 star. This tour was contracted out. We were on a bus and everyone booked the tour with a different company. We did not get to see Chinchero at all. Our tour guide drove us all the way to the town, but said we would watch women dye clothing instead. This was a huge disappointment because we bought a 70 sole tourist card and only got to see two sites. This could have been avoided in multiple ways. We didn't leave the square until 30 minutes after we were dropped us off, so after 9:00am when we were scheduled to start the day at 8:00am. Also, our tour guide made us stop for a silver presentation. The clothes and the silver would have been fine additions, but we only had 30 minutes of free time at the other two sites and no time at all to walk around the cities. If he knew it would have been too late, we would have rather they dropped us off after ollantyambo rather than wasting our time. Another way time could have been avoided is if everyone are at the same restaurant. Different from what they told us about multiple choices, our guide did not give us a choice on where we could eat. He told everyone that did not have reservations only had one choice and it was 35 soles per person at this place and a small water was 8 soles. We had to drive to over 5 restaurants to drop people off all over town which was a huge waste of everyone's time. Because this was a sacred valley tour and we hardly spent any time in seeing the sacred valley we are extremely disappointed and would not recommend this tour.

2. Machu Picchu tour: 4 stars. This was great! One small thing, our seats were not next to each other on the train. There are blocks of 4 seats together and on the train ride there and back we were not in the same block of 4. This was not a big deal, we were luckily able to switch with other people. Our driver and tour guide were both excellent and I would recommend this tour.

My girlfriend and I did the 4-day / 3-night Classic Incan trail hike. Cusco Native keeps their group sizes smaller and don't pile on the weight for their porters. Both of those points were very important to us. The guide, Franklin, was very knowledgeable and fun as well. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. A+ for Cusco Native.

We could not be more pleased with Cusco Native! When looking for a trekking company for a late March trek we wanted to travel in a smaller group, eat well, and be in good company. They delivered and then some, a lot of some! From the get go, Renato was prompt in responding to all emails prior to the trip, accomadated my food allergies and all my silly questions. With his guidance we decided on the Salkatnay trail. It was beautiful: cloud forests, high mountain peaks, jungle, gorgeous hot springs in Santa Teresa, and rounded out with a stay in nice hotel before Machu Picchu. Everything taken care of along the way including horses to carry most of our things, every meal, transportation to and from Cusco and MP, camp set up/ gear, hotel, and entrance into MP.

Chris Condori, our guide, with his five years of university education and Incan heritage was more than adequately qualified to be our guide. He knew all the plants and their medicinal uses along the trail, modeled reguard for our natural surroundings, pointed out pertinant landmarks, had a consistantly jolly attitude, and blew us away with a tour of Machu Picchu. We had some health issues come up among our group and they were met with with finess and ease by the entire team. Our memories of Salkatnay and Machu Picchu will last us a lifetime made special by the team of Cusco Native. We felt like kings and queens. Mariano, the chef (he even wore a chef's hat in the middle of nowhere) worked his tail off along with the horseman, José Baca, to prepare meals that were beyond belief and make sure we arrived to camp with a warm bed, hot water to wash our faces, and a good attitude. Don't even hesitate, from what we saw of other trekking companies I wouldn't go with anyone but Cusco Native for a quality, smooth running trekking experience.

Things we're glad we brought: light weight rain jacket and pants, rain cover for backpack, breathable layers, sun and warm hats, headlamp, camel back, good sunscreen, ibuprofren, magnesium for muscle cramping, mole skin for blisters, ABX in case of illness, water resistat shoes (we can recommend Salewas and Gortex Salomons), and flip flops
