“Hotel with character”
Reviewed 4 December 2011

This was our second visit to Cuzco and we were determined this time to stay in a "good" hotel after the previous budget hotel way up the hill in San Blas. Well the Aranwa did not disappoint! Such a nice hotel with character, filled with wonderful antiques and furniture. We ate in the main dining room twice and found the food and service of high quality as it is for all services we encountered.
Great bathrooms, well laid out rooms, not large but comfortable and efficient and the oxygen pumped in is a bonus at this altitude. Most rooms are facing an interior courtyard or corridor so we did not have a view but this was not an issue.
The location is good, a few minutes from the main square of Plaza de Armas although the street and sidewalk are narrow right in front so you have to be cautious especially when carrying luggage.

Let me start out by saying that if this hotel had a polite front desk staff, it would the best hotel we stayed at. I only refer to the front desk staff and not the polite servers and the valets, all of whom were excellent.

We stayed here Nov 23 and 24, 2011. When we reached the hotel , tired from our trip to mp, we were "TOLD", that our reserved suite was not available. During our entire conversation I did not hear a word of apology or regret on their behalf. The receptionist behaved as if it was our fault. We were given a the third best room ( the rate was adjusted, that is but expected) . They told us our suite is not available for the first night but offered to move us the next night, which we declined because we didn't want to pack and unpack.

Keep in mind we booked their suite, confirmed before arriving.
As if this is not enough , on checking out they asked us if we had taken the laundry bags from the rooms?? Are u kidding me? We just signed a bill of 600 USD, and u think I need a fricking laundry bag? Then she asked me
if i can write and sign that I didn't take the laundry bag. Really!

Again , I want to reiterate everyone else in the hotel is very nice and polite, it's just the reception desk. You are running a 5 star hotel, value your guests!

The hotel is very nice, spectacular rooms and bathrooms. Every inch of the property Is covered in beautiful artwork. Great location.

I would love to recommend this place, but some people there left a very bad taste with us. Will never visit again.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to Aranwa Cusco Boutique Hotel. Please accept my sincere apologies for the unacceptable problems you experienced at the front desk. We did have a problem in the room assignation, and the staff explained that it was due a another guest having fallen ill and being prescribed a day of rest. Rest assured that this was not something we could have foreseen and I know that the staff would have done their very best to remedy the situation. As you mentioned, we offered the next best available room category and the rate adjusted accordingly.

The laundry bag signature is a procedure that our staff is required to follow, Considering your earlier problems, the front desk should have been more attentive and waived the issue. We apologise that it took so long in this instance.

I do hope that you will take the opportunity to visit us once again to allow our staff and myself to make amends for your several disappointments.

Kind regards Gabriel Alvarez, Deputy General Manager, Aranwa Hotels.

The Aranwa Cusco is a terrific hotel centrally located in Cusco. We stayed there twice on our recent trip to Peru. Both times the staff was courteous, attentive and personable. It is located within walking distance of most Cusco attractions and shopping.

The rooms are very attractive and completely functional. They pump oxygen into the rooms which significantly help with the very high altitude of Cusco.

On our first visit, we were in room #108. This room along with 107 are located very close to the breakfast area which opens at 6 AM. What is worse is the prep for the breakfast starts at 4:30 AM. Not conducive to sleep with all of the noise. On our second stay, we were on the 2nd floor and it could not have been better

We flew up from Lima and loved the position of the hotel - central in the colonial part of town. We were met by staff with excellent english and given coca tea, before going to a fabulous room into which oxygen was pumped to help acclimatisation.
The room was beautifully furnished and decorated. Quiet and restful after our flight. The hotel public areas were ladened with antiques and overall was an amazing modernisation of the former home of the Dean of the Cathedral.
Staff and service were excellent. Breakfasts first class - although the only dinner we had was disapointing.
Overall this is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in and thank Imagine Latin America (our tour organiser) for an excellent recomendation

From the moment we arrived, this was a wonderful hotel. Greeted with fresh coca tea, served in beautiful decorated surroundings. There is a lot of art of the "Escuela Cuzqueña" on display throughout the hotel.

The rooms themselves aren't very big but again luxuriously decorated. The bathrooms are spacious and well appointed with heated floors and towel racks, rain shower heads etc.

Breakfast buffet was plentiful and offered a wide range of choices of cold and hot food.

The only point of critic I could imagine is the fact that most rooms have no natural light and the heavily curtained "windows" face towards the hallway. The hallway windows had some great views on the top floor but I wished I had that view from my room.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 1 night after returning from the inka trail and it was exactly what we needed! The hotel is gorgeous, in one of the most impressive buildings I have been in with beautiful courtyards and furnishings. The rooms are big and have every luxury you could ask for. The location is also perfect. This hotel isn't cheap but it is definitely worth an indulgent splurge!!

After long bus rides and train rides, hiking and climbing, my wife were so happy to return to Aranwa Cusco Hotel. The staff were very professional and spoke English well. The room was luxurious, with heated marble floors in the bathroom and a 2 person jacuzzi (not to mention the heated towel rack!) Each morning, we felt rested and energized for the adventure that is Peru. We also ate at the restaurant for the breakfast buffet and for dinner, and you could tell they took pride in their service and in their menu. It is reasonably priced for what you get, and don't let anyone tell you that "the hotel doesn't matter, you won't be in their much!" It really does, especially in Cusco with all that there is to see there!

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor seem to be more private, as there is a courtyard and the entrance to your...
