My friend and I stayed three nights at this hotel prior to our four day trek to Machu Picchu and another night after our return from Ollantaytambo. This hotel is conveniently located right next to Plaza des Armes and is a walking distance to museums, cathedrals and Sacsayhuaman as well as many wonderful restaurants and hotels. The service was wonderful and the complimentary breakfast was delightful. I would stay at this location again should I return to Cusco.

The staff is very friendly and helpful.
The location is also very convenient. Everything you want is outside within 5 minutes of walking distance.
They held our luggage while we went to Machu Pichu and came back and stayed at the same place.

Room Tip: The rooms are quite small, but I guess it's the location.

Perfect service, perfect location, beautiful rooms. Would recommend this hotel to everyone. They looked after our bags whilst we hiked Machu Picchu and they were waiting in our new room for us a day later. Great breakfast.

Tierra Viva took care of everything we could have wanted. We got a great rate on this hotel from hotels.com, which was quite a bit cheaper than any other booking site or going through the hotel. This hotel was top quality and quite a bargain for the price. I couldn't ask for anything more from a hotel!

Also, this hotel stored our luggage when we did the Inca Trail. The staff there is very professional, and I felt comfortable leaving all of my valuables, such as my laptop, etc. with them. We didn't have any issues with our room, luggage, or anything else whatsoever. Our stay was incredibly easy.

This hotel is actually really unique. I'm not sure how the hotel was originally planned out, but each room is dramatically different from the others. The first room we stayed only had a floor to ceiling window that lead to the courtyard. It had a HUGE bathtub with jets that was amazing. Another couple we talked to had a balcony in their room with a couch. The second room we stayed in was much bigger, had no windows, but had a circular hot tub in the bathroom. The bathrooms of this hotel were likely redone recently and are quite nice. We really liked the fact that all of the rooms were different. Having an inside room is also nice because it is quiet. If we were really bothered by the lack of lighting, I'm sure we could have asked to switch rooms. The people at the hotel are extremely accommodating.

The wifi is free, and there are a couple computers and printers available for complementary use. The breakfast is excellent. They have fresh fruit that's not always found in the US. They also had ground cherries and this ground cherry jelly that was one of the most delicious things I had tasted. On top of the toaster oven, there is also a freshly baked spinach bread/pastry thing that is excellent. Don't miss that either!

Madeline was always working at the hotel when we were there. She was so friendly and got to know us a little bit. She handled everything that we could have hoped for. Thanks so much for helping us!

Also, it's important to note that this hotel is very centrally located within the plaza. There are two Tierra Viva hotels in Cusco, so make sure that whoever is transporting you knows that you are staying at the Plaza hotel.

As a side note, we stayed at the Tierra Viva hotels in Puno, Cusco, and

A quaint cosy hotel. In a convenient location to the Plaza and many eateries. Breakfast was nice. Staff were very accommodative and pleasant.
As there is no lift it was inconvenient to get our bags from reception down the stairs to our rooms and up on check out day. Thankfully the staff carried it for us making us feel rather guilty knowing how heavy the bags were.
We were in a room that had glass panelled door with no curtains filtering light in the night making it too bright to sleep.

My husband and I stayed here for a few nights, before and after visiting Machu Picchu. The hotel is conveniently located by the main Plaza, just up a narrow street and hill. Our hotel arranged for our airport transfer, which was fantastic. Cost was 20 soles (although our rate included it), and the trip took 15 min.

I'd describe the hotel as quaint, contemporary with some local Peruvian/colonial flair to it. When we stayed just before and after Christmas, it seemed quite quiet. The lobby is on the top floor, and so you go downstairs to get to your rooms. Going up and down the stairs was actually tough; I didn't know what to expect from the altitude, and I was out of breathe each time we climbed the stairs because the air is so thin. Thankfully the porter helped with our luggage. There is no elevator.

The rooms we had on both occasions were small, but very comfortable and clean. We had no issues with hot water, nice showers. The only issue may have been a loud toilet; I felt like I would wake up the entire hotel when I used it in the middle of the night. We wished they had had windows to bring in more light; otherwise the rooms are very dark...but from this perspective, the darkness does provide for good sleep. Perhaps the rate we had meant rooms with no windows.

They offer free wifi, and there are a few computers and a printer on the mezzanine. There are no other amenities in this hotel, which is just fine as it encourages you to explore Cusco.

The buffet breakfast was good; eggs, tamales, deli meat & cheese, fruit, cereal, yogurt, juice, coffee/tea. It is served in a small dining room, with additional tables and seating in an adjoining sunroom which was nice. They offer coca tea throughout the day, in a room off of the front lobby. This room has a sofa and some chairs, with a nice view of part of the city.

Lots of restaurants, stores close to the hotel...and again, it's right by the main Plaza de Armas. It is in a great location, but best to have the exact address because of the two locations (the taxi driver who picked us up from the train station was very confused which of the two Tierra Vivas we were staying at; due to some of the streets being closed because of the Christmas celebration, he just dropped us off and we walked to our hotel - which was fine).

The staff are very friendly, and they helped us with all of our airport and train station transfers which was great. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We enjoyed our stay at Tierra Viva-rooms were nice, staff was helpful and tea was always available. Nothing seemed like a problem for the staff, they were ways willing to help. Very close to plaza de Armas, which was wonderful!!! Would stay again if we travel to Cusco again. Only one little issue, the hotel is next to a very, very loud disco tech ....the music plays very loud until 3am. Fortunately for us we were so tired most of the time it didn't bother us. Keep that in mind if you are a light sleeper.
