Quillabamba is a modest jungle town, about six hours from Cusco, that sees little tourism. The Hotel Alto Urubamba is located a block away from the Plaza de Armas and behind the main church.
The hotel offers two levels of accommodation: “basic” rooms with 2 beds, a table and chairs, shared bathroom with cold-water shower, and no towel service; S/30 (US$11). “Better” rooms are smaller but more nicely appointed, with private, hot-water bathroom and (I believe) towel service; S/65 (US$24). Reception staff ranges from cordial to stone-faced.
My biggest complaint is the wide-screen TV mounted in the lobby, which runs all day for staff entertainment. The sound bounces around the lobby and into the rooms, though it stops at night.
