Cusco was wonderful and my only regret is insufficient time to explore all of the sites. our guide was great and we saw the main highlights.
Plenty of restaurants to chose from.

Even if you aren't a history buff, you'll enjoy Cusco. The old buildings and narrow streets provide a backdrop for current-day Cusco and some great people watching. The altitude robbed me of my ability to do anything strenuous so I enjoyed the chance to see ice cream vendors carrying their ice cream in a thermal bag over their shoulder, young girls hoping you'll pay for a picture of them and their lambs, young couples cuddling on park benches. It felt like a glimpse into life for residents of this popular tourism destination.

My daughter and I fell in love with Cusco. Lots of great historical sites to visit in and around the city. From Saksaywaman one can see the entire city, the snow-capped mountains and the glacier on a clear day. The people are friendly, and the city is easy to navigate. The architecture is varied. We stayed at the Terre Andina and loved the hotel, especially the staff. We were there for 6 days, well worth the time.

We ended up not having a whole lot of time to enjoy Cusco on its own merits, and we wish we could have had at least a couple more days now, just ambling about and enjoying the history and ambience: it most definitely is a living, breathing city, and you just want to enjoy it, revel in it, and soak it all in. It's obviously completely touristy, but it doesn't feel overwraught, overdone or overly stuffed with the most heinous aspects of tourism. A real charmer of a place.
