Very tasteful public space and old charming building with a colonial feeling. Upon arrival, Daniel? if I remember his name right who is a bellman/concierge welcomed us and did all the registration process, serving Coca Tea explaining what this means and luggage handling. Also throughout our stay, he was the main person who helped our stay most enjoyable. Very courteous, friendly and professional. He made our stay wonderful at this hotel. He is the asset at this hotel. You do not go to front desk as it is in a separate room and not much necessity only at check out time as this bellman/concierge staff did most what we expect. Give 10 stars to him.
On the other hand, we paid extra $$ to get colonial room which is in the main historic building. I ws expecting the same feeling as lobby, but it was not much impressive for decor and amenities. I would have stayed regular room with much less room charge.
Loved this hotel overall, but room and price can't justify me putting 5 stars.

So 1st ill go by saying we stayed at this hotel about 4 years ago and it was amazing, the service was great, the room was beautiful and we really enjoyed it that when we decided to come back to Peru we booked it again. BUT this time was not nearly as good... On our 1st visit some on the employes found out we did charity work and we received emails from the employees asking for money. And when we never responded finding it inappropriate when we returned they employe was working at reception and treated us terribly. When we checked in he made us wait in the bar and had someone else bring paper work back and forth because he didn't want to talk to us... We felt really uncomfortable but thought maybe it was just him and we went about our stay.... Well throughout the stay we felt ignored by employees and like a burden to the hotel. Towards the end we had had enough and went and talked to the manager and that was on our final night... We felt we had to say something, when you pay for good service you expect to be treated well, and for our final night things were better but it was too bad that this happened. My family travels to Peru a lot to work and we go to Cusco to rest and I don't think we will book the Novotel on our next visit. We were good clients who stayed repeatedly for long visits and were treated bad no fault of our own... Because we didn't "sponsor and employee" who wanted to come to Canada and one who wanted money... It was extremely uncomfortable.
****also the beds are extremely hard!

Upon arrival we were offered cocoa tea, which was a nice touch, stayed in rooms in the inner courtyard which where spacious and clean, early morning breakfast was a great start to the day.
The hotel is in a great location close to the town square and many good restaurants, can't say enough about the staff who were very helpfull with everything. When we left to return to Lima my wife realized that she had left some items in our room when we where at the airport. I called the hotel and they delivered the items to us at the airport..Very nice touch.

Novotel Cusco is located on a small street near the main plaza. The hotel had a charming lobby/courtyard area and the rooms had a modern, simplistic decor. We were greeted with coca tea during our check in, which helped a little with the altitude sickness. Our room was spacious and clean and the bathroom was well maintained and stocked with the standard bathroom amenities. The hotel provided an early breakfast for those leaving for Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu in the morning and were willing to hold your luggage if you planed to stay overnight in Aguas Calientes. The location was great and nearby many restaurants. All major sights are within walking distance from the hotel and there's a convenience store at the end of the block that sold all the basic necessities. Highly recommend.

We stayed in the inner court yard rooms which were wonderful. The staff was very thoughtful to all our needs. The locations was perfect, very close to the Plaza and just for enough to walk off some of the excellent dinners we had. The whole stay was great before heading to Machu Picchu and we would gladly stay here again.

THE BAD: Rooms 201 to 206 are ground floor, with high windows looking out to a narrow alley. You open the curtains, and you are face to face with strangers !. We had 4 days with our curtains closed. Simply not nice. The carpet leading to these rooms was also badly worn and stained. Compared to the rest of the hotel, you feel as if you had paid half price... which we hadn't. We had actually booked in February and paid in March. The hotel was full, so moving us (allegedly )was not an option.
The airconditioning system (we were told) heats only, despite having a "cool" button. Our room in mid winter was always hot, so all we could do was open a window to the dingy alleyway. This let in all the noise from the alley. Again, not nice.
These rooms should be sold at a reduced rate, with honest advice given to people booking them
.
THE GOOD: The position is really great. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean, recently renovated, and beautifully presented each day. The restaurant had a wonderful courtyard setting, and served reasonable, but relatively simple meals. Breakfasts were fine. The staff too were generally good.

In summary, we really enjoyed Cusco, and we enjoyed most of the Novotel....expect for what we mentioned above

Room Tip: MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT IN ROOMS 201 to 206 , and you'll probably really like this place !!

I was hesistant about the choice of this hotel. I had read mixed reviews so I checked the room out before letting our guide leave us there! The room was part of the old building and it was big! There was a king size bed on the lower level and 2 singles on the upper loft. It was very comfortable and quiet inspite of being so closed to everything. Great courtyard to chill out, run of mill tourist type breakfast, but note- the service was really good. The staff at the concierge made multiple phone calls for us when my daughter left our camera- of course with all our MP photos in the back of the travel agency's van. They were so eager to help!
