This hotel has it all, not only is it within walking distance to most attractions in the main square but its a converted manor style house with plenty of charm. Having the large glass covered courtyard provides a sheltered room with all of the benefits of being outside. No matter the weather you can pull up a chair and relax.

The rooms were clean and comfortable (although i found the beds firm)

I loved nearly everything about this hotel. It is in an excellent location just blocks from the Plaza de Armas (historic square) and cathedral. Restaurants, sights, laundry service, shopping etc etc are all within easy walking distance. The hotel is a converted older building so has character - including an enclosed courtyard that houses part of the hotel's restaurant - which is comfortable, reasonably priced and tasty. The complementary breakfast is extensive and delicious.
My room was huge, modern, clean and comfortable and had a balcony overlooking a quiet side street and up a hill covered in tile roofs. Some of the other guests complained of too much heat in the rooms, but I didn't notice this issue, perhaps because my room had two outside walls and it was cold and wet outside.
If there was private security, they were much more subtle than in Lima. This was a bit of a relief after the excessive(?) prevalence of security in Lima.

On the downside, the front desk staff are easily frazzled and seldom had change for the larger bills dispensed at ATMs - small bills/coins are a critical necessity in Peru. And the concierge did not seem comfortable with his English. Cusco is very much a tourist town - with 40 flights (of mostly tourists) arriving from Lima every morning, so a competent concierge is really important. Finally, the two computers available for guests' use worked well - however, I have NEVER sat at such an uncomfortable set-up in all my years. I could hardly stand to use the PCs for more than a minute or two. Perhaps this is deliberate.

Room Tip: I believe that rooms overlooking the front would be a bit noisy.

This is a nice 4 star hotel with a great central location and nice rooms. However we are currently here for 2 nights and the weather has been hot although cooler now. However the room is stifling hot 23deg to 25deg and there is no air conditioning and the heating is on all over the hotel. If you like us from the UK like cooler conditions and a good night sleep, you will not get this at this hotel. I would have thought for 4 star you would expect air conditioning.

Novotels, as others post, are very often concrete blocks, but Novotel Cusco is extremely characterful, housed in an historic building in the centre of Cusco. The tasteful conversion into an hotel retains the architectural heritage and includes a glass roofed courtyard setting for the restuarant. The ultra modern standard rooms are in contrast and maybe just jar a bit, however, all mod cons are there and they are clean and make a very comfortable base for visiting Cusco. I notice that the hotel does have superior "colonial" rooms, so might be more in keeping with the hotel in general. Those willing to spend a bit more should check these out.
Breakfast buffet very comprehensive
Excellent value hotel.

Room Tip: Ask about the "colonial" rooms

Novotel brings to mind a high rise hotel, but this was anything but! Set in the old part of Cusco, the lobby and courtyard restaurant/ seating area are beautiful. We stayed in the modern rooms which were typical modern hotel rooms. The location makes a stay here definitely worthwhile.

Perfect location, around the corner from the main square. We were in a two story family huge room very comfortable to accomodate a whole family. Very good breakfast and very friendly staff. I would definetly recommed this hotel for a family trip.

Our group of 20 stayed here 2 nights. The rooms are simple but efficient. The floors are clean; they are laminate. We liked the blackout curtains, shower head, flat screen TV, safe and 2 stands for our suitcases. They only provide a free bottle of water on the first night. The shelving comes in handy as cupboards. The beds looked thin, but they were comfortable. The reception area is hidden away, off the covered courtyard.....Strange. We enjoyed the food selection at breakfast and had a delicious small meal in the courtyard one night. The elevators are so quick! The roads in the area are very narrow. The exterior of the hotel is very "simple" .
