our family spent two nights here at the end of a week in Peru and this is a beautiful hotel, full of character and with excellent staff very close to the heart of the city. it is an old monastery that has been very tastefully converted

The setting is incredible---a monastery dating back to early Spanish colonial times. There are original frescoes still on the property. However, the service and staff make this a truly top notch place to stay. The rooms are on the small side but every detail to ensure a comfortable stay has been provided. Appreciated the L'Occitane bath products and thick towels and robes.

I had booked and paid to stay in the period 05-09 March, 2014, but I decided to change in my second day in this hotel. There were many problems. First, as soon as I have arrived there they said that I had confirmed two bedrooms instead of one bedroom. As a result, I was forced to stay in 2 bedrooms, too much for a couple and 2 small children, ages 11 and 3 years old. This was just the beginning! The hotel is really a monastery, and not suitable for children, there is nothing to entertain them, and this is something that it is not warned before. Even something as simple as televisions do not work very well, in both bedrooms I was forced to stay there were problems in the remote controls, and nobody could fix them. Finally, the staff in the reception desk was really unfriendly. Fortunately I have decided to move to another hotel in fact much better for the whole family. If I had not moved my vacancy would have been really awful!

The Monstario hotel is top knotch in every way. The setting is like you were back in the 1500's but of course it's been updated. They kept the old world charm. Rooms are spacious, food is the best, staff very professional and friendly. Don't miss this place.

I'm not really into writing reviews but this hotel and its amazing staff went above and beyond in every aspect, it would be an injustice not to write this review.

I've had the pleasure of staying in hotels and villas from Asia to the Australias, Europe, Americas and South America and I say this with full confidence; the Monasterio is by far the best place I have ever experienced.

The main reason; it's People. The staff there are clearly very motivated and take personal pride in their work. They are very sincere, show great initiative and really care for you.

Every single person there went beyond their expected role, but I would like to give special mention to the Guest Relations team, especially Christopher and a lady I believe is named Connie? (my sincere apologies i'm getting old and struggling to remember her name now).
Allow me to give some examples of exceptional service;

a. We were supposed to do Cusco -> Peruvian Amazon (Puerto Maldonado). On the way to Cusco we got a call saying Amazon was cancelled; the heavy rains made it dangerous to visit that location. Unfortunately Mother Nature makes the final decision. So there we were rushing to make the flight and hotel changes etc.
When we arrived in Cusco, Christopher of Guest Relations heard of our plight, and despite that leg being under a totally different hotel, he immediately jumped in with suggestions on how the Monasterio could help and tailor made changes for us to bring the vacation back on track. Simply AMAZING initiative, ideas and helpfulness on his part and his team's!
And all this help coming from the Monasterio despite the changes of that part being under a different hotel. They treated us like their family, showing alot of concern on every step of our trip to make it as perfect as possible.

b. We returned from Aguas Calientes (the town below Machu Picchu) late at night to the Monasterio. The Guest Relations executive on duty that night was the lady I believe is named Connie (please forgive me if I got it wrong, but I will always remember your kindness).
She was already waiting to receive us as soon as we got off the transfer. She seemed very concerned and told us they got news of a strike happening at the Cusco airport the next morning. Our flight was that same morning too. So she suggested we go to the airport as early as 5:15am to get in before the strike starts. They were very apologetic (despite the strike having nothing to do with them) and upgraded us to the presidential suite! We were so so appreciative of the personalised help from them and the concern for their guests' wellbeing.

So next morning we left very early, managed to get into the airport (with very heavy police presence) and lo behold she was there waiting to greet us at the airport itself..! Poor lady must have hardly slept that night. She made sure to follow us all the way till we were safely inside the immigration area. How is that for caring service? Beyond Amazing.

These and many other little bits of loving service to their guests from the morning breakfasts (the friendliest restaurant staff), lovely live flamenco music or gregorian chants (*these gregorian chants are so beautiful and fit the surroundings PERFECTLY) as you eat , to the every creative and helpful Travel Desk folks, the super clean room service, the beautiful spa and special mention to the night Concierge who helped to install our very own dedicated router in the room when my wife had some wi-fi problems. There are many many more instances of their excellent service but this review would turn into a novel if I kept writing

So in summary, the Hotel Monasterio is my favourite hotel of all time, to me they have reached pure perfection in the Hospitality industry and I would not change a thing there. Thank you for everything guys, you gave me the experience of a lifetime. Looking forward to coming back soon.

t is a unique hotel with an incredible setting. When they play the Gregorian music you feel you are thousands of years behind ... and you can almost see the "Agustinos" monks walking around you. Rooms are small and bathrooms are a bit old already but I understand that it is very complicated for them to do any restoration at...
