“True Five Star Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

A warm professional five star welcome.
A relaxed check on over a cup of the local coca tea.
Luggage was whisked away to our room.

The beautiful building is very old so this does pose limitations on the room design.
We had room 119 which was well equipped apart from no tea & coffee making facilities.
Bed was comfy enough but once again pillows so soft you might as well not have one.
More than sufficient storage.
Room safe in this room was not quite big enough for and iPad.
Some noise from a car alarm and bar if we left the window open at night.

The bathroom had a bath with fixed head shower over it.
A flexible shower hose would be so much more practical and versatile!
Lots of towels and good cosmetics. Bathrobes and slippers too.

Breakfast starlets at 0500hrs and had an excellent mix of cereals, breads, cold meats, fruit and hot food. Plus some dishes cooked to order.
Tried lunch one afternoon and if was very good too as was the smaller evening bar menu.
Service at all times was five star as was the food quality.

We had a night away in Machu Picchu and on our return were given a suite with a fabulous rooftop view across the town. Room 433.
It had 3 beds on two different floors and a tv which rose out of a cabinet at the foot of the bed which unfortunately took up much needed room. The very small bathroom (not big enough to swing a guinea pig in) had a shower only, but this time with a fixed and flexible shower.

Free wifi was good.
Location was good for us and the main square only a short walk away.
The staff remembered our names.

In conclusion:
The service was definitely five star as was the food.
The rooms characterful and difficult not to like despite minor limitations.
The building delightful and impossible not to admire.
We would love to stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask at check in for preferences as the staff will be helpful. Rooms at the back may suffer from car...

I've been very lucky to have had the opportunity to stay at the Monasterio Hotel 3 times since early 2014. This hotel has it all, impeccable service, breathtaking setting and restaurants offering some of the best Peruvian cuisine Cusco has to offer. Mainly, I was pressed by the Sales Manager in charge of both sales conventions, Maria Vinces is a TRUE professional a pleasure to work with and the main reason as to why they hosted our sales convention TWICE this year. She simply cares about the individual not just the "business". Wether you're there for pleasure or business rest assured that your experience will be one that you will never forget.

Hotel Monasterio transports guests back in time. A former monastery, with it's ornate chapel still intact, the Monasterio somehow kept it's soul while being beautifully transformed into a 5 star hotel. It seamlessly combines history, luxury and modern conveniences. The architecture is stunning, the service is outstanding and the food is fit for a king. The breakfast array is decadent and served in a beautiful barreled ceiling room, and lunch on the courtyard patio under a shady tree transforms any moment into a special one. Cusco is a beautiful town, full of Incan and Spanish history and lovely, narrow cobblestone streets. Tourists from all over the world come here to discover magnificent Macchupicchu and other ancient ruins. For us, returning to Hotel Monasterio at the end of each day was a sublime treat. We would love to return.

What I Liked Most: The elegant restoration from its former incarnation as a monastery; service

What I Liked Least: Rooms are a tad small; no gym

Stayed here for 3 days over Christmas. It's been beautifully crafted into a hotel, retaining the look (though not the feel!) of a monastery. Service is exemplary.

It's only a couple of blocks from the main square. Beware though. It's 3400m, so going down to the square is an awful lot easier than making it back. They have an excellent restaurant, but there are plenty of excellent restaurants nearby if you fancy a change. Breakfast was generally very good, though I wasn't really taken with the runny yogurt.

The rooms are nice enough, though not especially spacious. They're also not naturally very warm, though the hotel was quick to provide a portable radiator. (They also provide an oxygen tank if you ask for one.)

Wifi was uncomplicated. There is no gym. There is a gym near the main square costing only a few dollars, though the equipment is old and there are no decent cardio machines. There is another gym in one of the adjacent hotels costing $35, but I did not visit so can't say if it's any good.

This is a great hotel for a visit to Cuzco.

We recently stayed at Hotel Monasterio after our trek up the Inka Trail and into Machu Pichu. Our experience was outstanding. The concierge provided remarkable service from handling our bags, to directions and even walking us in the rain with umbrellas to our car. Our waiter at breakfast was wonderful and we enjoyed seeing him each and every morning to start our day. Rooms were beautiful and immaculate, the beds were extremely comfortable and the grounds were beautiful. Overall, amazing stay and highly recommend.

This old monastery has very cozy rooms, it took me until the second day to realize that the shutters on the windows opened to let in light! It is located on a small square with a few shops and just a couple of blocks from the main square in Cusco and there was a lot you can see within easy walking distance. The food in the restaurants was delicious and at dinner one night we had a wonderful opera singer performing while we ate. Her voice was beautiful but it was a little hard to carry on a conversation with the other people at our table. At lunch one day I wasn't feeling very well and the restaurant gladly fixed me a plain chicken breast which wasn't an offering on their menu.

The positive things about this hotel: the unique experience of staying in a very well restored old monastery, the gentle music of a religious feel piped through the beautifully cared for gardens, the delicious breakfast, comfortable rooms without any street noise....however, the negatives are that the walls are very thin and along the corridors there are strips of shiny brass metal plates holding the carpet runners together and at all hours they make a horrible noise as people push bags and trolleys over them. Cleaners start their day very early and the trolleys they push along woke us every morning, probably every time! Very disappointing, didn't seem any point in changing rooms as the carpet plates seem to be in every corridor. Suggest they replace metal plates with rubber if possible! They offer choices about having linen changed, BUT they still changed our sheets even though we left the card on the pillow to signify not to change our sheets. In fact we returned to our room at 3pm ready for a rest and the bed was stripped bare and no cleaner in sight. There are no tea of coffee making facilities in the room. Location is central to the old part of Cusco, but a bit of a climb down to the main square ( if you have problems walking you will need to get a taxi to get around or at least down to the flat area to explore)

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the staff service elevator
