This building is a monastery from the early Spanish occupation of this part of South America. It is somewhat like stepping back in time. The service was first rate. Excellent service and food service. There is even oxygen piped into the sleeping quarters so that the guests won't get headaches from breathing the thin air at this altitude.

Brilliant location on a small plaza off the main square in Cuzco. Unadulterated luxury, but mixed with cultural and history. This grand old building has been expertly and beautifully restored and turned in to an amazing hotel. We stayed here twice, once before and once after visiting Machu Picchu. The second time our rooms were mezzanine and not that accessible, especially for my 70 year old father but that's my only gripe. One of the most amazingly comfortable beds I have ever slept in, super sized kings.

Room Tip: If you are older I would suggest asking that they don't put you in one of the rooms at the front which are split level mezzanines and to go to the loo in the night you have to negociate a small steep staircase.

We recently stayed at this hotel which we found excellent. It is a beautiful old building set around courtyards which meant that we could relax when not out exploring. The staff could not do enough for us and we would not hesitate to recommend it.

We spent 12 days touring Peru and stayed in 8 different hotels. The Monasterio was beautiful and the location was fantastic, but we were disappointed with the size of the room. It was the smallest of the 8 hotels and it felt a bit cramped. Based on the reviews I was excited to stay here, but when I opened the door and saw the size of the room, I was a bit let down and was wishing I was back at the Inkaterra. I booked a "superior" room; I would recommend upgrading to the Deluxe or one of the suites.

The service was spectacular and the overall condition of the property was really nice.

My 17 year old son and I enjoyed our stay very much. We felt pampered and well cared for. We knew that what ever questions we had we could find someone to help us. This contributed to our ability to enjoy our adventures.
