I simply can not imagine a more beautiful Hotel Property - no wonder I was told it is the number one property in South America. Everything is stunning - from the incredible beauty and serenity of the courtyard to the old world magnificence of the bar/lounge. Check in was in the bar as we relaxed w/ a drink and friends - they came to us - brought us our keys and arranged everything while we sat and visited. It is a real, converted monastery - connected to a stunning church - it is still owned by the Church and leased long term to Orient Express. Rooms had period art - AND oxygen (made the first few nights really comfortable at 11K+ feet of altitude. I will stay there again - superb property. The General Manager, Patricio was everywhere - he checked on our group at least once a day - twice sometimes - sincere, amazing staff! A+++

The Hotel Monasterio is like Heaven. Rooms are spacious, great bathrooms, comfortable beds. Toiletries from L'Occitane. Walking distance to numerous shops, Plaza de los Armas, and cathedrals. Greeted with Coca tea to help with altitude adjustment. Great bar and the best Pisco Sours in Peru!

The prices tell you this is going to be good...but it was way more than we were expecting. It's a fabulous historic hotel, a renovated monastery, with wonderful portraits everywhere, two huge cloistered courtyards and a very special atmosphere. They play gentle religious sounding music and it's just right for the provenance of the place.

My husband had only one criticism - that the staff were too solicitous. He just couldn't move without someone asking if he needed a drink, some help, a door opening...!

Definitely a fabulous experience.

We stayed two nights here with our 3 children (ages 5, 7 and 11). It was wonderful. I mean, you are staying in 500 year-old building that was a monastery, so it is all thick stone walls and echoing hallways. Incredibly atmospheric. The rooms are tight but well done. The location is fantastic. There are beautiful views at night as all the lights start flickering in the hills of Cusco, and the Pisco sours are top notch. It's a great hotel by any standard.

If I were to make just one recommendation, it would be that they scale down their breakfast service. It is just so over-the-top. You've got every conceivable food from every corner of the globe, and the serving tables take up most of the room in the large dining hall. Because of this, you have sliced white bread, processed-looking croissants & pastries and such mixed in with really delicious and fresh local fare (omelets, bacon, fresh fruit, fresh-squeezed juices). Why not just have the fresh local fare?

One of the great hotels... anywhere.
Service, food, location are all world class.
Get a room with piped oxygen for comfort and acclimitisation.
