“Architecturally magnificent”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

Good for lounging about but you will be approached by people selling something if you sit on the benches. MacDonalds is best VFM for people watching.

“Fun but very touristy”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

This is arguably the center of Cusco, at least the tourist part. The main square is dominated by expensive restaurants and bars, all with surprisingly familiar fare: McDonald's, pubs, Starbucks. The center of the square is the iconic statue of an Incan king and the largest building in the square is the Santa Domingo Cathedral. This cathedral is actually a pretty cool place and deserves a stop, with a guide, for an explanation of the grand and ornate relics inside. Bottom line: You will spend time here and be dropped off here for much of your trip, but make sure you go out and elsewhere.

“Beautiful plaza - best so far for us in S Americas”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

Great place to do people watching, eat a snack, drink a beer or a coca tea. Enjoyed it much. A few streets away are shops, markets, historical sites, major hotels, super restaurants.

“Plaza de armas”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

We went on.a tour in 6/22/2014 with the group Explorica. The guide hustled us from our hotel, Casa de Hermanas, to the very center of the plaza where there is a fabulous fountain surrounded by many statues. All of the sudden we heard a band strike up! He had gotten us there at the exact time that the guard marched out in front of the castle. It was amazing! Place was muy crowded, it being the day after the solstice. Many amazing floats for the parade and tens of thousands of people. Tens of thousands. People. There was a huge stage at one end of the plaza where they held celebration until late into the night. We could hear the music and crowd until late into the night. Unforgettable.

So pretty and great atmosphere during Inti Raymi celebrations, a great place to chill out and read for a while in the sun.
