“Charming and Unique Hotel in Center of Old Cusco”
Reviewed 15 August 2012

We stayed at Hotel Marqueses for two nights before our Inca Trail Trek and one night after. This hotel is beautiful and charming. It is very old so don't expect some of the luxuries of a brand new facility. However, you cannot beat the location and the kindness/helpfulness of the staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the courtyard and not the street.

The price tag attached to this hotel is pretty hefty, but its a great little hotel in the middle of Cusco. The location is excellent and it had the added advantage that the trekking company that i used was right next door.

Only stayed 2 nights in this hotel, after the Salkantay Trek and they were a very pleasant two nights.

The staff are friendly and helpful and the interior of the hotel is well done.

The rooms are very spacious, spotlessly clean and with good interior design (single room with double bed). Nice to sit inside the courtyard lobby and sip away at pisco sours.

The only downside as I mentioned was the price tag. There are other hotels nearby which have a similar feel, but at a fraction of the cost. Wifi works in the lobby, courtyard area, but not in your room (and I was on the ground floor).

Breakfast is decent and substantial. Did not try the restaurant as there are plenty of other places just around the corner.

Recommend this hotel, but only for a short stay.

Room Tip: Trip and get a room on the first floor over looking the courtyard, they looked really good.

The Hotel Marqueses is a beautiful little hostel in the heart of Cusco. It is within walking distance of much to do. We stayed there on three separate occasions as we transitioned in and out of Cusco between our trips to the surrounding countryside. The rooms were clean and the staff helpful. During our trip to Machu Picchu, they stored our excess luggage until we returned two days later. The only issue we had was the cost of the stay. It's really an $80/night hostel but we paid $170/night. However, this is likely the same throughout Cusco. We are not sure as we did not do our due diligence to see if there was better priced lodging in the City or if this was a typical rate.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms in the front of the hostel fronting the street. They are known to be quite noi...

Lisa G below gives this hotel one star below. And strangely, I agree about most of her comments and still rate this five stars. Let me explain:

This is one of the most memorable places I have ever stayed in: A beautiful Spanish colonial inner courtyard house that feels, and in large part probably is, a couple hundred years old. So, yes, the doors are rickety, the rooms are cold, and the shower water barely heats up--for me, it was all part of the charm.

The best part of all was that in-room safe! They actually have a combination safe in the cupboard, i.e. one where you need to carefully spin the wheel right 2x33 left 4x52 etc... just like in the movies. It took me ten minutes but I felt like I qualified for Ocean's Eleven.

And I think we all agree on this: The location is perfect.

We stayed for four nights. We had a great experience with this hotel. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean. There is free wifi and breakfasts were very good. The hotel is in a great location- walking distance to all sights. Highly recommend this hotel. Particularly after a long trek!

Hotel Los Marqueses was charming and comfortable. The staff answered many questions via e-mail before we reserved our rooms. They met every need, had a wonderful triple room, had a lovely breakfast buffet with great coffee and had wifi access and also 2 computers for guests to use. A charming courtyard and complimentary coca tea provided a restful place to check my smartphone for messages and acclimate to the altitude in comfort. It is a short walk to the square from the hotel. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: The triple rooms are a great value and rare.
